A Halo mod for the critically acclaimed Sins of a Solar Empire, that aims to capture the fast paced intensity of the Halo series.
Here's our updated Halcyon-class Light Cruiser model made by Malcontent1692! The last image is a comparison between the new model and the "classic" Halo: Combat Evolved Pillar of Autumn type ship we used before.
"Cortana, all I need to know is did we lose them?"
"I think we both know the answer to that"
"We made a blind jump, how did they?"
Get here first? Covenant ships have always been faster...they've been tracking us all the way from Reach, and at lightspeed my maneuvering options are limited.
I still think I preferred the original one. Those big slopes of armour on the sides made me believe that it was as tanky as its reputation suggests, and the reclaimer symbol up at the front fit in much better on the old one (looks like a recessed missile launcher) whereas the new one makes it look like a decal.
Understandable, the old one will always be great because of the Halo 1 nostalgia for sure, but this newer one still has the same tanky look in the team's opinion (sides are still sloped same as the older model). Believe me, when you see it in game it certainly doesn't lose any of the tank characteristics.
Also I believe the reclaimer symbol on the H1 style ship was literally just a decal anyway. There was never any weapons under it and no weapons come from it in game either, so it was still just a decal on the older model, just bigger. In fact, it was still team color coded on the old model as well which definitely makes it even more of a decal.
Fair enough with the reclaimer symbol, and I never doubted that it'd lose any of its tankiness in-game. It's just the way that is translated over to its outside appearance that bothers me.
I mean, there's a big gap in the upper glacis on the new one, and on the underside too it looks like. Kinda makes me feel like the armour's been taken off the new one, and we're seeing all the stuff underneath it, like the skeleton.
Yeah the "cut" in the armor plating has been the start of more arguments among us devs than you'd think, it appears to be a new standard design mainstay on any Halcyon-type ship ever since Bungie re-designed the PoA in Halo: Reach. The new PoA had it and the new Autumn-class also carries it over. So it looks like its here to stay for the foreseeable future lol. I admit it is a strange design choice but it doesn't bother me too much anymore.
I think I like the older model a bit more. Both are excellent models though.
