Our representation of Halo's iconic space combat in the Homeworld 2 engine, which puts the player in command of some of the most powerful weapons fielded by the UNSC and Covenant and to provide a balanced and competitive experience.
Final version of the Marathon class cruiser.
Rather than the old view that cruisers are essentially "just another ship" in that they're the natural progression from frigates and destroyers by simply having more of everything, cruisers will feel different to play around with - They'll be much larger and heavily armoured, taking a very long time to destroy even under heavy fire, and have far heavier and more exotic armament.
While smaller ships make use of cannons and turrets to deal with strike craft and for use in ground support, cruisers will be equipped with a myriad of turrets that make them almost immune to smaller vessels and larger weapons that allow them to engage heavy covenant ships on a very even footing. Cruisers will literally be giant floating fortresses in space, but the cost and length of production mean you won't be making them in any large numbers.
A standard UNSC fleet might consist of 2 marathons, a carrier, and an escort of maby 20-30 frigates and destroyers. Each individual ship will count more and take longer to destroy than vanilla HW2 counter parts, making battles longer, but at the same time production times will be upped considerably, making battles far more decisive.
i wonder what size the supercarrier must be to fit one of these in it
I'm not so sure the supercarrier will make it in anymore. We'll see.
Is it even canon that the supercarrier can take a Marathon? I nean, they were bigger, but the Marathon is the big guns of his fleet, why would it need carrying?
For repair purposes. My original concept of the supercarrier was that aside from simply carrying strike craft, it'd be a traveling repair and refit ship able to accomodate anything up to cruisers.
And it was made canon. XD
Yeah. That too. But the artist who made it canon didn't realise there was a marathon stuck up it's ***.
He also drew the old destroyers on it as hardpoints.
wow that's a bit annoying
Wait, who made it canon?
It's in the new bootcamp comics, so 343i.
That is one very awesome looking marathon cruiser
That is just Epic, awesome work guys! :)
I still cant get over how awesome the little longsword clamps are.
