I'm just worried the fire power might cause insane lag or crashes. Hopefully not, though.

Everything is scaled properly, in the beta too. Longswords might be wrong, but past that i think everything is right in the beta.

I mean that in the actual beta, the Halcyon is not 1.1 km long, etc... I'm sure that everything is scaled properly to other ships, but ships are not as long as they should...

Oh. No, things won't actually be as long as they should be in terms of in game measurements.

Why ? Because Homeworld 2 maps are too small ? :-(

Pretty much. We know you can make very large ones, but making the ships them selves smaller means we can make other values smaller.

Yeah, we're not going to go quite that big, we just want it big enough that travel times, sensor ranges and enagement ranges feel right.

It makes me wonder... Will there be a specialty "covvy killer"? (having a myriad amounts of shield killing weaponry)

Not really. MAC's and other kinetic weapons will be most powerful against covenant shields as the whole force of the projectile is put into the shield, while explosives will be less effective, but past that, no ships will really be "shield killers".

Description

Final version of the Marathon class cruiser.

Rather than the old view that cruisers are essentially "just another ship" in that they're the natural progression from frigates and destroyers by simply having more of everything, cruisers will feel different to play around with - They'll be much larger and heavily armoured, taking a very long time to destroy even under heavy fire, and have far heavier and more exotic armament.

While smaller ships make use of cannons and turrets to deal with strike craft and for use in ground support, cruisers will be equipped with a myriad of turrets that make them almost immune to smaller vessels and larger weapons that allow them to engage heavy covenant ships on a very even footing. Cruisers will literally be giant floating fortresses in space, but the cost and length of production mean you won't be making them in any large numbers.

A standard UNSC fleet might consist of 2 marathons, a carrier, and an escort of maby 20-30 frigates and destroyers. Each individual ship will count more and take longer to destroy than vanilla HW2 counter parts, making battles longer, but at the same time production times will be upped considerably, making battles far more decisive.
