awesome=D looks neat =D

Btw (you've probably answered this somewhere before) will you be giving us the spirit of fire?

because even though you already have your mothership the SOF could act in many of the same ways E.G. the ten ships it carries that are visible under it "wings?" could be harvesters not to mention the number of hanger bays it has!=)

but if not a mothership then it could potentially be a carrier because that is pretty much what it is; a hevily armed carrier =P

Phoenix Class Colony Ships are of civilian design. The SOF was refit, yes, but far from being a military ship.

fair enough but what are you going to do for harvesters because the pods would make good ones =)

I think they should use Pelicans as harvesters and use their original resourcing system with Forerunners asteroids and freighters.

Why Pelicans ? Because they can transport crates from the Forerunner structure to the freighter :)

Pelicans don't have mining equipment on them. I think we might use Pelicans as capture ships, though.

As for Pods, they were used for making sarter colony buildings and in the case of the SOF, UNSC Firebases for quick setup of ground ops.

You don't understand me :)

If you check the pics of the resourcing system ( several months old ), Velo explained that mining some asteroids and transform them into Titanium is strange...

So, Velo said that there will be giant Forerunner Asteroids/Structures with crates of resources in it. So, Pelicans will be able to transport them :)

We've already decided not to use that system as it was far more complex. Instead we're having a large refinery ship with small mining drones.

If we were to use that system however Pelicans would not be the ships i'd choose - They're a military drop ship, and while they may be able to carry a large number of supplies for ground forces, it would take hundreds of pelicans to realistically ferry the resources required to make a couple of frigates.

yea... But, Pelicans are also used by civilian forces :)

Dumbed down versions like the ones in New Mombassa, yeah. But they aren't a freighter.

we can still imagine that they transport crates for industrial corporations ;-)

That just...Doesn't happen often enough to be considerred a granted thing.

There's very few instances in modern history where military hardware is repurposed for industrial use, particularly freight. The only instances i can think of is some coldwar helicopters that are used where no other helicopter is large enough or powerful enough to lift such a heavy object - and such instances are numberred in single digits rather than the norm. Not to mention why the idea that pelicans are suited to freight is absurd.

The pelican is a poor candidate as a resource collector, we're not changing our minds about this.

I would definitely like to have the Phoenix in this mod, could care less about the covenant destroyer but considering the SOF has one of my favorite ship designs it would be sad to see it go unused =/

Like said above, the SoF was a Phoenix Class Clony ship, and it was a civilian ship... Unless this mod features a " Solar Sytem Invasion Mode ", they will be useless.

I too wish for the Phoenix, but Velo doesn't like it so I've kinda given up on the idea. I originally pitched it to him as a research and baracks type ship but that's kinda what the Anchor 12 station is for.

I mean other than that, I can't see any other use for it.

How bout giving it the role of a secondary carrier/support role or sumthin? its a civilian ship refitted into military standards,so it should be good as a heavy carrier (modified)..carrying large numbers of longswords,it can also be good to modify it also as a anti-strikecraft ship w/ large numbers of PDS turrets or a missile bombardment ship, supporting attacking ships from the rear lines?

There's a perfectly canon UNSC Carrier and Supercarrier. If we were using another engine where a colony/support ship had a more defined and important role (SOSE, EAW)then i would consider it, but to fit the SOF in we'd have to shoe horn it a role

Well, there are three canonicals Carrier Type ships in the Halo Universe, the Supercarrier, The Carrier and the Colony class; which could actually be considered a Carrier.

While there are actually no known images of a Supercarrier (whose role is more akin to an actual Anti Covenant Capital ship), there are some images from the Carrier (See Halo Fall of Reach: Boot Camp, issue #3 pages 2 and 3 which depict the UNSC Atlas, a carrier), and extensive footage from the Colony Class.

As Stated above, the Supercarrier class is more akin to an actual Battlecruiser, being able to counter a Covenant ship directly, and transport fighters and support units.

The Carrier, serves it´s role well, being a transport and support ship, capable of deploying several squads of Fighters, Bombers and Pelicans.

The Colony class that we all know very well, is able to transport and support small scales assaults, as well as transport supplies and deploy fighters, bombers and pelicans.

Now, mod wise, the UNSC Carrier could be used as your Standard Homeworld 2 Carrier, while the Colony Class ships could be used as Light Carriers. Several mods out there do have Carriers and Light Carries (Complex for example), and both ships can be canonical reproduced within your mod.

In other words, you can canonicaly recreate a Carrier and a Colony ship using images that are canon within the Halo Universe, you can´t however reproduce the Supercarrier, given that there are no canon images of it. Thus said that, you could actually give a role to a Colony Ship in yer mod.

The Phoenix class Colony Ship carries nothing but starter colonies, supplies, and colonists. They are smaller than a cruiser and larger than a frigate, making carrying Longswords impractical. The Spirit of Fire was one ship that was refitted much like how the Halcyon was one ship of the line to be refitted for a special mission. It was a one time thing.

I'm sorry, but actually, the SoF and the Phoenix class in general are 2.5 km long ( 8.500 ft ) while the frigates are 478 meters long ( 1.568 ft ), Marathon-class Cruisers are 1.192 meters long ( 3.910 ft ) and Halcyon-class Cruisers are 1.170 meters long ( 3.800 ft ).

So I totally agree with Kylialiel : the SoF could be used as a light carrier.

Lenght wise they are bigger, but their mass is smaller. The Phoenix is just a giant skeletal structure with a large storage bay closer to the front of the ship.

All of that is conjecture unless the newer novels after GoO explicity give descriptions of the supercarrier and carriers. We have no problem coming up with non-canon designs without reference images, and one of my designs was actually made canon, as Zero linked, coincidentally OF the supercarrier.

You're also using Homeworld defintions of carriers - We're not having mobile production ships in HHF, carriers won't build fighters or anything else. Their role within the fleet is to deploy fighters and offer support services, otherwise they're simply expensive cruisers, the SOF offers no other space-based services and so it's only role would be "a slightly worse carrier" that i in no way would argue could be noticably cheaper than a real carrier.

Indeed. And while I agree with your position to a degree, I bet several of us followers of your Mod would be more than pleased should you Decide to include the Colony Ships in the Mod (C´mon they are beautiful). And, while I know your mod is more akin to Space Based combat, in the Halo canon, most of the UNSC Victories in the Human-Covie war were on the ground, so it highly likely that some Phoenix Class ships where attached to the fleets.

Btw the Carrier I was mentioning ain´t the one you made, but the Atlas that appears on Issue #3.

UNSC Spirit of Fire Please =(?, at least as a cameo =(?

Is there any chance you could send me a scan of the Atlas? Halopedia is very lazy when it comes to uploading images people actually want to see.

And it might make it in once everything else is done, but most likely it'll be someone else's model.

You'd think the only reason I joined HHF was to texture and get it off the ground... :P

...Maby 30% done now?

Won't be able to work on it much for a while now, gotta get in alot of homework and then i'm in Rome for a few days.

The mid section houses the bridge, fire control and armoury, as well as the hangar area for Longsword and other craft. It also has an assembly area where the components produced in the rest of the station are put together.
