I love the name but will there be UNSC Falcons in the game or are these replacing them?

I'd name it after some type of sword to keep with the tradition of fighters and bombers being named after swords. Maybe the UNSC Katana?

Usually, those are spacecraft names. For atmospheric vehicles they always use animal names: Sparrowhawk, falcon, hornet, warthog, scorpion, pelican... so personally I think Eagle it's pretty fitting name. Katana would be a great name for a new unsc spacecraft though. There was a unsc CAS jet called Skyhawk, but it looks way to much like the sparrowhakw though.

and by the way, glad to see you decided to add it, it is really awesome!

Shortswords and Longswords are both capable of flying in atmosphere, and often do. Not to mention that the example pic above is taken in space. There's no reason the Falcon can't be a spacecraft that's used in atmosphere.

It's not about capable of flying in the atmosphere, but outside it. If they can go outside it, they are not called as animals.
Shortswords are atmospheric and orbital, probably they were called that way because of their similarities with longswords:
Halo.wikia.com
''These strikes are launched from an orbital support ship, indicating at least a rudimentary exoatmospheric capability. ''

So as you can see it can leave the planet's atmosphere.
And yes I know, the pelican could be considered a spacecraft too, and it's a animal name, but notice that all UNSC dropships are named as animals:
Pelican, bumblebee, Albatross...
So this is clearly an exception that affects only dropships even if they are spacecrafts. When it comes to strike fighters/bombers that are only atmospheric, such as the F-99 Wombat, they are named as animals.
Halo.wikia.com(Fighter)
Falcon
Production information:
Class Atmospheric Strike Fighter
At least this is what it was supposed to be.
So as I said before, Eagle fits it. katana is a cool name, but it suits best for a spacecraft, or for a fighter/bomber that is not only atmospheric.

It could be an space-capable fighter though. Since it's cut content and not canon anymore, the mod devs could make it whatever type of fighter they want. Like I said before, they did take the preview pic in space afterall. Unless that was just a mistake on their part, there's no reason the fighter can't be called the Katana.

In that case then katana would fit pretty well :)

Longswords are multipurpose, used both in and out of atmosphere, and shortswords are seen almost exclusively in-atmosphere (Halo wars).

Eagle is the most fitting name. That or "Hawk" but there aren't many bird of prey names that aren't already taken.

It has to be a bird name too because all atmospheric aircraft are named after them.

All UNSC trans-atmospheric craft are named after swords
Short-sword space and planetary bombers
Long-sword Space and planetary fighters
Broadsword Heavy bombers
Saber Interceptors

In that case: Rapier, Gladius or Cutlass.

They're small, so maybe "Dagger"? If they're fast then "Switchblade"?

If they can go outside the planet's atmosphere, then yes, they are going to be named that way. But in this case we are talking about a atmospheric only strike fighter, or at least that is what is supposed to be. So it must be called after an animal, eagle fits it IMHO.

The only exceptions are dropships such as the pelican, bumblebee and albatross which could be considered spacecraft too. But this one is not a dropship. So there is nothing wrong by calling it eagle.

if the mod developers decide to make it orbital too, then katana could be a good name.
Longsword, Shortsword, Broadsword, Sabre and Katana.
