You had me, defend an npc, against tanky demons, with an AK-47. I blame my autism for actually playing this mod all the way through. Has anybody actually played the whole mod? Has anybody played it on veteran?
Good. But why did you replace the machine gun? Also it's new model looks about 3 times tinier, than should be.
I like the AK47. I used to work on a mod called 5.56 Full Metal Jacket and I really liked the weapon, so I asked the creator if I could put the model into this mod and he agreed, so that's why it is the way it is. It is like nostalgia in a way. If you don't like the change, you can go into the mod folder and disable the .pk4 with "AK47" in the name by changing the file extension to .pk5 or just deleting it.

Also, would you kindly describe using fhdoom source port, that you posted on mod's site? Is it your project? For case of positive answer - are there any plans for it's further development? What experience it gave and what troubles did you encounter during using?
