Unfortunately, REBIRTH will not be making the February 2010 release we hoped for. However, I am confident that a Beta-version demo for the first disc will be available next month, for feedback and testing, so keep your eyes peeled!
I will be offering a PSOne NTSC-U (American) version patch, followed by a similar patch for PAL-E (English), which will feature:
- The new spells, materia, and enemy skills
- A cleaned up version of the enemy class system
- New mechanics
- Stronger enemies, with more potent, status-inflicting and dangerous attacks
- New weapons, and characters with rebalanced growth rates
However, I must emphasise that this will be a Beta - open for evaluation and change - and there are certain things, such as new enemy AI, formations and encounters, that won't be finished for quite some time yet. Writing new AI and debugging it can be a time-consuming process, and as disappointing as all this sounds, crashes are an absolute no-no in a game where hours pass between savepoints. I will not be happy to implement these features into a public release until I have complete confidence in them.
The demo will come with full instructions for patching, a few tips and advice to get you started, along with instructions on contacting me, discussing the mod and contributing your own experiences to the project. It might be a little longer than first hoped, but hang on tight!
Upon coming across this project I wondered if it involves graphics too. Because if it doesn't you really should work together with the guys that made these: ht tp://w ww.youtube.com/watch ?v=iBplEca8U58&feature=related
ht tp://w ww.youtube.com/watch ?v=VeY9qd6d8Ms (had to break the links because of the anti-spambot system)
I really appreciate you taking the time to stabilize the game before making a public release, so I'm fine with the extra wait.
Would these new mechanics be outlined in the Beginner/Intermediate Halls, or in a readme? I'm interested in how much of the game's text might get changed, since I like that kind of stuff.
I'll be altering info in the beginner's hall, yes, to reflect changes in the elemental and status vulnerability systems.
Oh... sweet!
Haha, I wonder which will be harder between this and FF6 EvilType.
Lemme know when something is ready to test. I am eager to see what you fine gentlemen have been cooking up in person!
