CrossFire is a multiplayer mod for FarCry.

The project's main goal is to extend and enhance the game's original multiplayer mode.

It allow to play multiplayer mode with new weapons, new vehicles and characters as well as many new features.
Visual and sound effects as well as many gameplay elements have been reworked and improved to increase realism, immersion and fun.

All the additions and changes offer a unique and totally different gaming experience, without distorting too much the original game.


  • WEAPONS: The mod add an extended arsenal with more than 40 different weapons, each with unique characteristics. All weapons have been set to get as close as possible to their true characteristics (loader capacity, rate of fire, etc.), most of which have multiple firing modes.
  • VEHICLES: Some vehicles have also been added and the characteristics of each vehicle have been reworked. Some of them can have various mounted weapons.
  • ASSAULT: Assault mode offers an additional class, and each different classes have been modified to enhance team play.
  • BLEEDING MODE: This game mode offers more difficult and realistic gameplay. It make bleeding when a player is injured, health will continue to decrease gradually. To stop bleeding, a bandage or a health pack is needed. Otherwise the bleeding reduces and stops byself after a moment.
  • RAIL ONLY MODE: This game mode offers faster and harder gameplay, close to Unreal Tournament or Quake. It gives to all players a laser beam weapon that instantly kills an enemy.
  • HUD: New high definition HUD.
  • VISUAL: New particle effects.
  • SOUNDS: Improved weapons, explosions and player movements sound effects.
  • BOTS: Improved bots can be added to spice mp games or for training

Far Kart


The fun factor is very important in CrossFire, so I recreated one of my favorite battle arenas from Mario Kart 64 in Far Cry with a bit of nostalgia for that good old game from my childhood.

If you never played Mario Kart 64, it's a kart racing video game developed and published by Nintendo in 1996 for the Nintendo 64.

One of the multiplayer game modes is the Battle mode, it offers players to fight in arenas. BlockFort is one of the 4 arenas available in the game.

It's a perfectly symmetrical multi-level arena with three levels of platforms linked by ramps and bridges. The four blocks that make up the arena are color coded so you can see where your opponents are with a glance at their screen.

The map has been completely recreated with special attention to detail in order to be as close as possible to the original map.

As you can see its structure is identical, and the original textures have been recreated with a much higher resolution (x16).

Even if today it is no longer possible to look at the screen of your opponents, the blocks color code have been kept in order to stay as accurate as possible to the original map.

The Nintendo 64 version only allows 4 players while the Far Cry port of the map allows up to 8 players, which should be even more fun!

Obviously, the game rules are not exactly the same as in Mario Kart since the game modes available in Far Cry are quite different.

For the moment, the map is only available in Free For All and Team Death Match game modes. But a game mode similar to the Battle game mode available in Mario Kart will be added to CrossFIre in the future in order to fully enjoy this kind of maps.

Since it's supposed to be a vehicle-only map, there are no weapons available. Instead there are Buggies equipped with a Minigun right in front of each player respawn point.

These Buggies respawn after only a few seconds after they are destroyed or abandoned so that they are always available when a player respawns.

There are also 4 HUMVEEs available at the highest floor of each blocks. They have a machine gun and a rocket launcher but they don't respawn as quickly as the Buggies.

In this map the minimap is fully functional and you can see all objects on the map, not just the terrain.

WHAT'S NEXT


In the future, other Mario Kart 64 arenas will be ported to Far Cry and a special game mode will be implemented to the mod. It should increase the fun factor of this already awesome game.

But for now the mod is still under development and a new update should be available soon for the beta testers.

Please tell me this includes campaign coop :D I've been waiting for 16 years for someone to make it work, because when I tried to make it a few years ago, I failed miserably :D

I like your project!
How did you make bots? Do they use the ingame AI or it's something totally new? I'm wondering if it's possible to make bots for CryEngine 2.

Well from what i remember (but i may be wrong) bots were a cut feature of the game, which make sense since CryTek and Ubisoft didn't really focused on mp part of the game so they just not finished them.
Actually the bots you can see working on FC1 mods were done by a former and now retirer modder called Mixer, i didn't make them myself.
I just tried to tweak them a bit to get them a less dumb but i didn't get too deep into it since they will never replace real players no matter how smart they could be.
And yep they use ingame AI but with some specific routines.

Oh i'm surprised that there is no bots in CE2.

Thanks for the answers! Yes, it's a pity, but CryEngine 2 doesn't even have AI enabled in multiplayer by default. Although there is a mod called Crysis Co-op that is aimed to re-enable the singleplayer AI to be available for MP mode. But even when enabled, it's totally not suitable for anything in MP. The AI in Crysis campaign is pretty dumb, it's even worse than in FC1. To make them capture the points and coordinate in groups, there has to be some "director" routine. So I was wondering if this was implemented already.
