Developed at the end of 1943, the Sumpftarnmuster was a success not only in the summer environment but also sometimes in winter.
In the Normandy theater it was used by the 2nd Panzer Division and 21st Panzer Division, in mid-August 1944, most visible during the fighting in the city of St.Lo and Caen and during Operation Luttich. However, although it was more common to use the Splittermuster, the Sumpftarnmuster shined for its appearance to confuse the enemy, especially the Russians and Americans, with its ability to camouflage itself in the vegetation.
