And for some reason I can't delete the second comment without deleting the first too. Ahhh the first world problems...terrible, terrible...

Now that would've been far faster than actually having to model one :)

How great would that be, find a model of it in real life, scan it in some scanner, say at what poly range the computer needs to render the 3d model at and your model is done. Would ruin the fun of modelling though...

Not at all, 3d scanning is already possible, the tech is just new and not very well known. Had my face 3d scanned onto a modelling program in my local university 2 years back. Much like 3d printing, that stuff (the 3d printing) is revolutionary, yet not everybody is going crazy over it. Which is really weird as it is absolutely the future, as revolutionary as the introduction of the personal computer.

Damn, I absolutely agree. As I heard about 3d printing and that you can indeed print (almost?) everything with it I was just blown away by this fact and I mean that literally.
This is not just some new tech feature, it may be a whole defragmentation and renewal of our whole industrialized society. The main problem is: Existing companies and lobbies won't admit such technology, because it would make the individual user independent from them. Thus it's like with the church or the monarchs in the past, they will try to stop it or they'll try to slow down the process to adapt themselves of those to not loose their (economical) power.

Whatsoever, you did a fantastic job on this famous symbol of the empire. Really damn amazing, even without 3d scanning. ;)

Ger. 123d By autodesk. It might have a new name now iirc, but it'll probably work good enough for getting things to be used as props into max as references for low poly.

At my engineering school we reconfigured and XBox 360 Kinect to act as our 3D scanner for all of our 3D printers. It works wonders! We can make little action figures of ourselves haha!

BTW that is an amazing model and skin! on a side note is anyone disappointed with how Star Wars Rebels decided to make their Star Destroyers have the tall derpy bridge tower? I like it much better in TCW where everything was fairly movie like/more realistic.

I hope what I saw in the Star Wars rebels preview wasn't the final product because the animation in TCW was a million times better at least as far as space battles went. Maybe they could borrow Geroenimo's model because it is much better than the one they are currently using.

As for the 3d printing it is catching on slowly. My boss has one in his office that he uses to make toys with. They do take a long time to actually print something unless you buy extremely expensive ones but they still are really cool. I'm sure the technology will evolve like everything else to be quicker and cheaper. They are fun to play around with and I had to do a couple projects with them when I was in Engineering school.

Yes, At my school we use 3d Model printers during IMP... unfortunately only the top picked stuff gets printed because its quite expensive

Very impressive. I think the most impressive thing is you actually made a Star Destroyer that looks better than your original one which is no simple task. I think this is my new favorite model. Completely not related to this mod but I was thinking that quad heavy turret in the nose makes it the perfect model for the Anakin Solo. I believe that's where the long range Turbo lasers were located.

Will the turrets rotate? The lack of turret rotation in the base game (and most mods I see) is not good for my OCD. lol

This may be one of my favorite reskins of the ISD, most people want a grittier more worn look, but this is clean, sharp, and IMPERIAL!

It's got a bit of dirt and dust on it here and there, but overall I went for a clean look, glad I achieved that, and thank you!

Description

Finally got the new model skinned.

Now including all sorts of advanced skinning techniques like copy/pasting images from google, and not bothering skinning any of the turrets for this picture.

Ok seriously now. It took a long time to get this thing properly UVed to use the ambient occlusion map, but damn it makes it look a thousand times better. I also actually bothered with doing the bottom of the ship, like making a hanger that's more than just a hole with a generic texture patch on it, like the last ISD model I made had. I also started thinking about the engines and remembered that I could easily make the hardpoint targetable again while still losing the glow effect when destroyed, so I MIGHT re-add all the engine hardpoints.

I think it's a nice upgrade from the previous ISD (https://www.moddb.com/mods/empire-at-war-re/images/particles-skin-edits-new-models-deathclones1#imagebox)
