Today, we have released Patch 4.3 for the demo of Edain 4.0. You can now download it directly through the Update function of the Edain-Launcher.

If you don't have a previous Edain version installed or the update via the launcher is to slow, then you may instead download a complete setup for version 4.3 here:

The Rise of Angmar



The biggest new feature of Edain 4.3 is the Angmar faction. The Witch-king rules over an enormously diverse army and innumerable horrors. Lead Barrow-wights, Werewolves, Sorcerers, Orcs, Hillmen and the elite Men of Carn Dûm into battle and subjugate the entire North! Angmar allows for many unique strategies and is the only evil faction with a mighty stronghold at its disposal. However, power has its price in the realm of the Iron Crown: Angmar's mighty heroes in particular often require sacrifice to make the most of their abilities. Do you have what it takes to lead Angmar to victory?

Axes of the Dwarves! The Dwarves are upon you!

Besides Angmar, the Dwarves are another focus of Edain 4.3: All three realms have been completely reworked and now feature vastly more polished designs, blending inspirations from the Hobbit movies with book lore and our own concepts. Form impenetrable shield walls with the Iron Hills, force the enemy to their knees with the offensive prowess of Erebor or trust in the speed and cunning of the exiled Dwarves from Ered Luin to teach your foes to fear the sons of Durin.

Other new features:

  • As in every previous version, we solved numerous bugs and other problems to ensure more fluid gameplay. Among other things, we improved the performance of several factiions so dropped connections and game crashes occur much less frequently.
  • The AI learned some new tricks, among others it now builds defensive structures again and uses all of its powers.
  • Rohan now may build an Exile's camp on the outpost, providing a new strategic choice. The camp can be built cheaply in the early game and supports aggressive play with quickly recruitable Exiles and Scouts. Later on it may be upgraded to the King's camp to train Captains and their elite troops of Meduseld, thus compensating for Rohan's previous lack of strong melee troops.
  • The Iron Hills now are supported by the hero Narin, who as Dain's messenger is especially effective at supporting other heroes and Ram Riders.
  • The units of the supporting faction Mirkwood have gained new abilities based on community-feedback.
  • Likewise, the heroes of Lothlorien and Mirkwood have received some enhanced abilities, especially Legolas, who now is more focused on fighting large armies.
  • There are new maps to discover, among them Fornost and Forochel's wasteland.
  • Arnor can now be found on more thematically appropriate maps.

Balance Changes

General

- Melee infantry batallions with ten members (i.e Lorien Swordsmen) now have 10% more attack to compare better against units with 15 or 20 members

- Summoned towers have significantly reduced attack range

- Citadels of strongholds and camps: Generate 33% more resources

- Heroes: 33% more armor against siege weapons

- Mounted heroes: Inflict less trample damage and are slowed down more

- Siege weapons: More vulnerable agaist most damage types

- Monster-units: Lifepoints raised by 25%

- Ranged units: Range differences have been reduced, so that units with „low“ range (Axe throwers, Galadhrim) now shoot farther. „High“ range (Rangers) remains unchanged

- Horns, War Chant and similiar abilities now last for 30 seconds

Gondor

- Stables: Cost increased to 800 (from 600)

Rohan

- Muster Camp: Now generates resources and comes with troop tents from the start. Rohirrim that have been called after the Weapon Store has been built are now equipped with fire arrows.

- Mounted Archers: +10% damage, slightly more effective vs. Pikemen with heavy armor

- Spear Throwers: +10% damage, now knock down enemies passively with each spear throw (formerly an active ability)

- Gamling's level 1 ability: Now requires level 2

- Alliance Between Elves and Mens: Summons Haldir at level 5, Galadhrim now have the same damage bonuses as Lorien's

- Theodred: Cost increased to 1500

- Hama: Cost reduced to 1200

- Eomer: Spear Throw cooldown lowered by 30%, damage increased by 30%

Dwarves

- Battle Wagons: Improved armor against most damage types

Lorien

- Beornings: 20% less damage in human form, recruitment time doubled, may only change their form every 60 seconds

- Rumil and Orophin: Cost increased to 300, 20% less damage

- Tauriel: Damage of her leap attack has been halved

- Chanters: Song cooldown increased by 50%

- Command Point Upgrades for Marchwarden Quarters: Now grant 50% more command points

- Ents: Endure 50% more fire damage before they go up in flames

- Entthing: Cost increased to 1200 (from 800)

- Haldir: Move Unseen, Golden Arrow and Leadership now are available one level earlier respectively, Move Unseen duration and radius increased, Golden Arrow now paralyzes all enemies with fear instead of just Orcs

Mordor

- Orc Swordsmen (inncluding Morgul and Guldur Variants): Damage reduced by 10%

- Cirith-Ungol Barracks: Cost increased to 800 (from 600)

- Black Uruks: No longer become cheaper through slave camps (now applies only to Orcs)

- Nazgûl: Cost increased to 1300

- Gothmog: Cost reduced to 1200

- Barricade: Cost increased to 3 points

Isengard

- Mines: Damage increased by 50%, but don't weaken buildings anymore. Everything that's directly in the center of the mine explosion will be annihilated regardless of health or armor

- Sharku's summoned beast: Hit points points doubled

The game doesnt launch. It has an error at startup after pressing play(in the laumcher). It says its related to data\ini\object\evilfaction \units\angmar\angmargulzar.ini' is this a common problem or my download just went bad?

Do you have any other mod, submod (for example the tournament fix) or unofficial patch (like 2.02) installed? Delete those. The mod is not working with them.

i have no other mod installed and after multiple updates the error is still the same. i have uninstalled and reinstalled the entire mod but it says the servers are busy to update it. so i will have to wait till the servers are back to be able to try again

Team, i won't talk about how great 4.3 is. Best. Woops. :D . I have been playing few games and want to report bugs. Again there is bug with command points. It returns to 900. Bug with walls, when you rise new camp it is missing if someone is at that place where wall needs to rise, as well as the building plots. Computer player can use level 7 palantir magic (cloud outbreak, Gondor) at the very begining of the game, in early game even army of the dead. But the main thing is command points (900).

I want to congratulate our dear Edain Team for making (I assume) such a masterpiece with the newest update :)

Currently I don't have access to the game (not even BFME 2) since I'm in a "getting-a-new-computer-phase" (don't ask how, just don't ask) so I probably won't be able to play it next ~2 weeks.

To everyone else, I wish you a lot of fun playing the patch! :)

It is automatically detecting from registry entries which are created while installing the game. If those dont exist, you didnt install the game correctly.

I had a similar problem, don't know if ours are the same though.
I got this messge telling me to specify the path of Edain_Mod4.3-1.big

That file was in the archived file downloaded from the site. To solve that problem you just have to extract all 3 files from the archived folder into another folder and THEN run the 4.3.exe

The game wont work correctly without the right registry strings either. So you need to do a correct installation for sure.

Great job on that update ! But i'd like to report a bug with the new rohan exile/king camp : it produces ressources at an incredible rate ! I thought it was made on purpose but it's just too strong ! you are invicible with rohan as long as you build this !

Otherwise it's a great update as usual the arkenguards are amazing !

The issue I am faced with is that it says 'error helegwen spell effeckt...' after I press play, I updated through the launcher and it seemed as if it completed although it took some time and the issue persists is it possible that it hadn't fully downloaded for some unforeseen reason. will the update, it says the server is down for maintenance, be completed when it its back up and running again?

Hi, Ive been playing with a friend with Angmar and the changes made within the old factions. First of all, they look amazing, and the ideas you include are lore-respectful and aproppriate. However, there are some things that are not quite ok and I wanted to help you with feedback.
First, the new exile camp from Rohan (which is amazing) is bugged, and gives and astonishing ammount of resources. Apart from that, I find it too cheap for something that provides you with horses early on. The farmland pikermen aren't unable to stop dwarven wagons (I don't know if that is on purpose but it makes them quite useless against dwarves).
Talking about Angmar, I´ve already noticed that the wolves are overpowered, since they are all cheap and fast and can beat entire armies in seconds.
I wish this could help you, I will continue playing and make you know if anything is strange. Greetings from Spain and thank you for your amazing job!

The new version is great, I love Angmar and Dwarves. Rogash is back. :)
I found some bugs:
Dori and CaH ranger still have german voice.
Bombur has Balin voice.

Thank you so much for this greatest of all great mods ^^
The new dwarves are sooo amazing!
But one thing i noticed:
The two new versions of the iron hills Heros Drar and Murin are too big.
They are more then 1 head bigger as King Dain, and even their hands etc. are bigger than Dain and all the normal iron hills soldiers.
When you shrink them a bit, they will fit in much better

Ehm ... I dont know if anyone posted this here but anyway
First of all congratulation to the Edain Mod team and people around that mod ...realy lads this is just breathtaking mod
Now to the worst part.
I have a problem with Fornost and Amon Sul Fortress and that is well .. When am playing Fornost as a Gondor (Arnor) faction it really spawns an Gondor Citadel and units heroes.. buildings etc. are all Gondorian instead of Arnorian (sorry if its intendet this way) and Amon Sul .. it did spawn 2 betalions of Arnor soldiers but all building plots are Gondorian once again (but heroes from the Fortress remain Arnorian)
I would be really gratefull for any tips how to fix this of if its just a mod bug

hey there edain, i hate to bother you, but, as rohan when i make the exile camp.......... it does the resources like every millisecond lol, it might be an issue with my end but i was just making sure no one else had that problewm, because rohan would be overpowered making ten thousand resources every minute, haha

Gnomi plz help so I've uninstalled edain and rotwk and reinstalled and downloaded from here to try and update and it's not working. Ever since the demo was released I can't even play edain anymore it won't even let me play rotwk I don't know what to do

HI guys. Amazing work.Is amazing the 4.3.
I get this error message when I enable and /or disable the mod in the laucher " Exception message: The file allready exist. Please report ......... Log saved at: ......."
First when I was updating the game i did it through the laucher but it stops mean while because it was taking to mutch time. So i download the file of this post and I instaled the edainmod4.3. And after I had to update the laucher.

I can play problably but there is any problem if this occur? What I should do?
