We are proud to present to you the latest version 3.7.5 of the Edain Mod. Featuring the first ever complete video game rendition of Thorin & Company from the upcoming Hobbit movie and introducing many long-desired features and balance changes, fans of Tolkien should not miss this release!
For the first time ever in a video game, Edain allows players to take control of Thorin Oakenshield and his companions featuring their designs from Peter Jackson's upcoming movie masterpiece "The Hobbit". We have gathered all released material on these heroes and meticulously modelled all thirteen dwarves after their movie actors. In addition, Bilbo Baggins has received the face of Martin Freeman. A year before the movie is released, you will be able to lead its protagonists into battle!
On their journey, the dwarves are accompanied by Gandalf the Grey. While travelling with the Dwarves, he uses new and unique powers based on scenes from the book. These allow him to unleash fire and sparks against orcs and turn trolls to stone with blinding light.
The northern kingdom of Arnor has received an extensive visual overhaul. While their unit designs are still based on the men of the Last Alliance, they now feature several individual aspects such as a new heraldry displaying their royal symbols: The sceptre of Annuminas, the Elendilmir and Barahir's Ring which would later be worn by Aragorn. In their struggle against Angmar, they can call upon new powers including the spell "Blades of Westernesse". This arms your troops with enchanted weapons forged to drive back the Witch-King which grant their bearer increased resistance against the magic powers of Angmar. During the War of the Ring, Merry would stab the Witch-King with such a blade.
The Witch-King, however, has gathered new powers and servants as well. His Men of Carn Dûm have also been re-imagined in greater detail, wearing blue and black cloaks and displaying the sigil of the Iron Crown on their chest. The savage hillman Hwaldar has been similiarly upgraded, as have several of Angmar's structures. New spells such as the Great Plague that wiped out Cardolan round out Angmar's arsenal of terror.
Mordor does not increase the size of its armies by building farms like other factions. Instead, they gain more command points by recruiting Orc Overseers from the Orc pit. Many players have given us feedback that the Overseers were rather useless aside from their command point function and made it too easy to cripple Mordor's army by killing the Overseers. In 3.7.5, we wanted to make Overseers more fun and exciting to play. They can now be attached to Orc hordes to discipline them and increase their effectiveness. Furthermore, you will retain half of your command points when an Overseer dies so you can send them into battle without worrying about having your entire infrastructure crippled. This way, any individual Overseer is just as dispensable to the Dark Lord as any other orc while the power of Mordor steadily grows larger...
To make gameplay more even, dynamic and exciting, we have added numerous balance tweaks to this new version. Among other things, spells from the spellbook will now recharge slower if more than two players are on the field so that even large games will not come down to simple battles of spell attrition (this only affects spellbook spells, not hero abilities). Many mass destruction spells have been replaced by spells that require more player input instead of just destroying armies with one click. For example, Mordor can now command Grond to be built at the siege works with an ultimate spell that replaces the old meteor rain. Furthermore, the number of fortresses any player can build has been limited to three at a time to make the choice of which areas to guard with your best defensive structure more strategic. On the other end of the spectrum, ranged siege weapons like catapults and giants have been strengthened against structures, but are now significantly less effective against troops to better fulfill their role as siege equipment.
Edain 3.7.5 is packed to the brim with new features. These include new models for Gandalf, Saruman, Quickbeam and more, new hero abilities for Palando and many other heroes, a host of new graphics and bugfixes, and much more!
Outside of the game itself, the new launcher comes with a revamped design and new tools to make players' lives easier. Among other things, it allows you set your resolution even to widescreen resolutions that are not supported by the game's own options menu. All functions of the launcher are detailed in the Readme file.
