Greetings, companions of Edain!

Today, we have released Patch 4.7.2 of the Edain Mod.

You can now easily download this patch using the update function of the Edain launcher.

If you don't have an Edain version installed yet, you first have to download the basic version as a complete package by clicking on the banner. However, you will still have to use the update function of the Edain launcher after downloading to patch the Edain mod to the latest version. Click Update until no further version is available - this may take some time.

Edain 4.7

If you have problems with the installation, then have a look at our support forums!

Bugfixes

4.7.2 brings a number of bugfixes: The Worldbuilder, which could not be started in some cases in the last version, can now be used again without errors. The Misty Mountains AI has been reworked again so that it no longer spawns buildings in the bottom left corner of the map. Many maps have been adjusted so that infantry is now better lit, and much more.

Let there be light!

The Three Trolls

The three trolls from The Hobbit that Bilbo encounters on his journey have been given a new concept, further emphasizing their status as predators with a retreat. They are now closely linked to their hoard, which they can summon directly at level one, and which in turn can reach higher levels over time. Their new ability, Treasure Haul, plays a particularly important role here. You can read more details here, where we present the changes in detail.

Ring Heroes

Over the last few years, we've heard feedback that people felt not all Ring Heroes were on par with each other. We have therefore taken steps to strengthen these Ring Heroes so that no player leaves the ring behind because they may not want to be burdened with the disadvantages of finding it. This mainly concerns Smaug, Arvedui, and Gandalf the Corrupted:

  • Gandalf the Corrupted:
    • Speed increased by 25%
    • HP increased from 3500 to 4500, self-healing doubled
    • Ability damage increased by up to +100%
  • Smaug:
    • No longer passively sets the ground around him on fire
    • Inner Flames can now be activated to set the ground around him on fire instead
    • Sea of Flames will always activate directly underneath Smaug, making it easier to use
  • Arvedui:
    • Armor strengthened
    • Small AoE damage added to standard attacks
    • The King's Demand now reduces a farm's income to 0, but grants powerful healing and +100% experience to heroes in medium range until destroyed
    • New ability: My line must not end! at level 10

Miscellaneous

Last but not least, 4.7.2 also brings several Quality of Life changes and balance improvements. For example, more intense colors are now available in the combat menu, which are easier to recognize on the minimap; the test hero "The Hidden One" has been further optimized; and some new sounds and FX have been added, for example for the Rallying Call. The focus of the balance is on the Misty Mountains: Their economy was a bit too strong and therefore received several nerfs, while on the other hand we implemented buffs for rarely seen alternative outposts. You can find all the details of the changes here.

Have fun playing!

A lot of very interesting changes.

I'm glad to see the Rhudaur Axe-Throwers will no longer level up so quickly. I was always confused when I saw the AI toting Lvl5 Axe-Throwers around XD

very good changes
Regarding The Hidden One, I wanted to know if in the future they will implement more heroes similar to him but for the factions that cannot use the Elven Lord category (Like the 4 evil factions, Imadris and Rohan) or if there is something in their plans so that can be used freely with any faction.
I know that the builders of all factions can be summoned, but the settlement buildings of the 6 factions that I mentioned, the heroes and all the units that come from buildings in settlements or outposts cannot be accessed in any way .
Among other things, the Misty Mountains faction only allows you to play with Gundabad and Goblin-Town, leaving out Moria.
If there is a way The Hidden One can be used freely that I don't know about, I'd like to know.
For someone like me who grew up with Lotr games, this mod is a caress to the soul, I love it and I really appreciate the time that the entire Edain team dedicates to it, thank you.

Hey, the problem you're encountering will be partially solved next patch. You will be able to select the Hidden One for evil faction as we are loosening restriction on custom heroes. However, it is not possible to do so for Imladris and Rohan as they were not part of the original factions.

Either way, you can circumvent this issue by clicking on the custom hero you want to play and then pressing the first letter of its name. So for The Hidden One you would have to press its name and then press T.

Once again, a very nice update which dedicate itself to the core priorities of the general balance of the game. I was thinking that the economy of the Misty Mountains was too strong indeed !

So sad sometimes to see some youtubers stopping themselves from exploring this mod because of some few bugs when the general qualité of it all is incredible.

Any chance we will see the different modes like "Legendary Heroes" not bug out the CP. Many of the maps still give you 8x the amount you should (12000) and in turn when the CP bugs out, the Heroes do not get their "Legendary Hero" stats as they die just as fast as they do in normal Skirmish.. This much I have tested. You can for sure tell when they have those "Legendary" stats as they are nowhere near as squishy.

It seems to differ depending on the faction, starting point, map or it could just be random. It would also be nice if its possible to see the stat differences on heroes in such modes if that's even possible. Overall, I will always vouch for Edain as I have always loved the mod! Keep up the creativity. :)

You can see the difference in damage that is listed when you hover over the hero - Legendary Heroes will give you +100% damage, so the values shown there will be doubled.

As for the bug, unfortunately this one is really difficult to fix. We haven't been able to pinpoint what precisely triggers it, and as long as we don't know the cause of the bug, we can't fix it unless we were to rework the entire gamemode. It's what makes the cp bug one of the more frustrating things to deal with.

Wonderful work! :)

There are some things that still kicking me out of the magic though:

IA buildings and units in maps like Belfalas or Dol Amroth (when you start outside the fortress in WOTR) should be allied to the player good forces approaching the cities, instead of being tagged as enemies and sloughtered in a brutal genocide.

Aragorn gimli and legolas, in WOTR mode, could be called during real time battles and then remain in strategy phase, giving you the chance to manage different "three hunters" unit in different location on the map.

Angmar IA often get slow and freezing units now and then

What does IA stand for? Do you mean AI, a computer enemy?

yes, my mistake. I said AI in my country language.
I mean AI (computer enemy) in Angmar, and in maps like belfalas or dol amroth i was referring to NPC

Ah, I see. I am not 100% sold on the Dol Amroth suggestion, but we will look into the Three Hunters. I can't say that I have encountered the bug you're describing with Angmar before, do you have any more details on that?

I see there are some sound animations rework.
Just maybe it lacks a sound animation for the spell "Drums in the Deep" for the Misty Mountains.
