ESF is a fast paced, 3rd person fighter based on the hit anime, Dragonball Z. Select your favorite character and fly, power up, transform, melee, and beam your enemies into pulp. Each character is given signature moves and abilities to compliment different style of play. Some are stronger in hand to hand combat, others are better with energy attacks. Play in three different game modes, deathmatch, team deathmatch, and capture the dragonballs. There is a learning curve so newbies beware. This is not your normal Half-life mod.

Now for a little holiday treat; Super Saiyan Vegeta renders and a lovely little Vegeta/Cell Games teaser video.

Posted by Mastasurf on Dec 27th, 2010

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!

The ESF team would like to thank everyone that supported us during the ModDB Mod of the Year competition. Although ESF did not rank in the Player Choice category it did receive a nomination for the Editor's Choice - Best Upcoming Mod. It is a nice compliment that leaders in the mod development scene have recognized ESF.

Great job guys. Although you didn't win (I personally thought you should have, not just because I'm a DBZ nerd, but for making HL1 look better than HL2 and creating a DBZ game that certainly gives more of a bang than pro DBZ games), ESF always has a lot of fan support so more likely than not, more people will play this mod than the others.
Keep it up.

the awards are rigged in a way really up to who the admins believe will win obviously they dident look at esf because it was half life 1 bet they feel stupid when they see its half life 1 turned into crysis lol.

ESF prob had the best graphics and detail and character modeling and game play then any of the new mods on higher powered engines and even beats indie games im so shocked how can something which can be so epic not win an award (because mod db fails at awards lol)

It's because it's an anime mod. Years ago, they had a Interview and the hosts constantly slammed one of the Team members for making "just an anime mod".

So yeah.

You do realise that's what the Editor's Choice Award is about right? Is the admins choosing which they think is the best, and ofcorse they looked at this mod, they were nominated for the Editor's Choice award, as noted in the article.

This was editors choice, and I don't want to belittle the other mods. They were all professionally done.

This is fantastic. I haven't really followed this mod closely, but I've checked the news updates every now and then, and I must say that everytime I look, I am more and more impressed.

I have played a bunch of DBZ garbage on the xbox360 and PS3, and I am constantly disappointed by horrible music, followed by horrible gameplay and controls.
I remember played ESF a very long time ago (a FEW years) and I can't believe it's still going. I loved playing it back then, even though it was a very early version. So i'm sure i'll absolutely love it when it's complete.

Keep up the fantastic effort, and I look forward to the day that the mod is complete. :)

most of Vegeta you see there is finalized, there are just some small tweaks to specular maps and such that need to be done, but for the most part hes done. He and Ginyu are basically the only 2 finalized to this point, thats the reason why we show them off a ton. There will be more to come though soon ^_^

Grega Dec 30 2010, 6:19am replied:

Renders have different lighting settings than actual ingame environments. You can position point lights round the model to bring out more detail in renders, compared to the 1 light source inside the maps.

+1 vote     reply to comment
KarrdeKNR Dec 30 2010, 5:24pm replied:

Yeah, it's all about how you set the lighting. Personally, I prefer the ingame setup. Especially once we have completely correct diffuse maps set. Oh and we also have a bug with the bloom that's mucking up some of the colors. It'll get fixed eventually.

This is brutal! omg this mod is the best.
I bet it will require much more from a computer than the half life itself...
Still, keep going!

It was good seeing Broly and fusions, or even ss4 goku or vegeta :) idk if you will add ss4 on it, will it have gt characters? or only Z ?

I have a question:What if someone that is not in the team makes a dragonball character and he wants to add it in you game can he add it,do you need only a model or animated and sound too?

+1 vote     reply to comment
Grega Jan 2 2011, 6:25am says:

You would need everything. That asside the XML add character feature will be locked in the final release. Only dev team members will be able to add characters.

+1 vote     reply to comment
GodGundam Jan 2 2011, 3:42pm replied:

well, there was talk about being able to add custom characters to your own personal servers a while back that can be used by others who join your specific server, not sure if that is the case still. But you will still be able to replace character models with ones you want to play with, though you will need to model and animate it yourselves (or get someone to do). Each esf character is custom animated to its own custom skeleton, so itll be quite the endeavor to make your own custom models still.

Everything in this mod looks amazing. but is it possbible to make the map get damaged during attacks? because like when you blast the ground lots of debris flys up but there is no damage to the terrain.
