bannerYou run under the pouring rain trying to reach your apartment. You finally get in, you don't plan to go out again for the night. Everything seems normal, it's late, the streets are empty and the building is silent as usual. Nothing is strange, nothing seems out of the ordinary, there is nothing that would suggest that tonight will be very different from the others you had to endure. You wake alone, you walk alone, you eat, sleep and live alone. You struggle daily to keep up with your life, everything got out of control so fast. What happened? is it the medicine? the depression? maybe loneliness? What happened?...

December's Cold is a singleplayer total convertion modification of Half-Life 1. All the content of this game was made by independent developers, which means the game features no original half life files, such as models, sprites, textures or sounds. The engine has been heavily modified into a new version of itself we like to call "STRESS engine" capable of having new lighting effects, normal mapping, full bright textures, screen filters, shaders, an inventory system and much more to be revealed.

Hi Moddb community! First of all, we want to thank you for the incredible support you have given us in the short time that has passed since we announced December's Cold. We have received nothing but kind words from you and some have even show great enthusiasm for the project. With that said, we want to express our appreciation and hope everyone is safe and well.

So far, we have only shown you screenshots and a short video displaying the graphical capabilities of the engine. That's why we decided to go a step further and show you how some of the gameplay mechanics work.

In this video you can see our inventory and smartphone interface in action. STRESS engine was created with the goal of modernizing the way goldsource sounds, feels, looks and plays. Every gameplay feature is being designed with the idea of keeping it simple ( insert Apple/Macintosh joke here ) In the horror games of old, like Silent Hill or Resident Evil, you ussually have tons of buttons displayed on the interface such as check, equip, drop, combine, eat, smell, etc. And as much as we love those games, we feel that kind of gameplay is dated and some of those mechanics are borderline backwards, specially when it comes to younger players. So how does December's Cold handle that? Simple, To check the description of an item, just hover the mouse over the desired slot, if it is a usable item (like a key) you just need to click on it to use it. Finally, if an item is equippable (knife, gun, medicine) it only takes one click to equip it. The logic behind all the game interfaces is TAB + click or click + TAB we have no intention of complicating it at all.

Last but not least, some of the sounds featured in the video belong to the talented Cry of Fear developers, Team Psykskallar. The sounds are there for debug purposes and to avoid breaking ambience while we test/show the game. This features were added recently to the game and we haven't decided how the UI should sound yet, but we will eventually remove them and add our own. We hope the video is of your liking and helps to illustrate this point! Thank you again for the support and enjoy!

Hope development is going well! Have you all considered opening a Discord server, so that perhaps folks can follow along more closely? It might also help build a core community for people who are interested in updates :) Best wishes!

Hope when this comes out you guys get all the recognition you deserve but don't go down this weird egotistical path where you become ******** to people you know and fans as well.

As a long time fan of Afraid of Monsters and Cry of Fear, I mean huge fan of I had one of those "Meeting your hero but they turn out to be jerks" type moments with its creator and I don't want the same for you guys.

Anyhow, you don't have to respond to that last part but I do wish the best for the team and I'm very hyped for all updates going forward. Playing this when it comes out is going to be a serious treat.

Great work! As much of a pain in the arse Gldsrc engine can be at times to work with. It's fruitful when things do work as intended. And it's amazing even to this day what a simple engine is capable of. Even Doom modders put out some incredible stuff 28 years later. You earned a follow.
