I started working on a 4th episode for Death Wish. The old levels will also be upgraded, of course. The new episode continues where the 3rd left off. I'm taking my time to make sure the level quality stays high, so don't expect this update until 2022 at the earliest.
I'll release some preview images from time to time on Twitter: @BloodDeathWish.
Here's a look at a couple of completed levels:
That's it for now. I'm testing in DOSBox and occasionally in Fresh Supply, so there shouldn't be any compatibility issues on release. The new levels will be outfitted with all the co-op play extras that were added to the old levels in the v1.5 update.
If anyone is wondering about the label change, it's because Death Wish technically isn't a mod, but rather an expansion/add-on, as it only uses vanilla assets (aside from the videos) and should be compatible with any Blood mod that is compatible with the base game: DOS, GDX, nBlood, Raze, Fresh Supply, etc.
Until next time!
It looks gorgeous already! Please do take your time!
can you please cease and desist? your blazing talent hurts my self-esteem. thank you.
Suddenly 2020 is redeemed.
Looks amazing!
Awwwww Yeah!
Looks phenomenal! 😻
Looking forward to it!
I am eager to try, I will look forward to it
Can't wait, the rest of the mod was fantastic.
Looks amazing!
What Death Wish truly needs is new enemies, not just simply reskins but new enemies
I only know how to use the level editor :-) I don't know how much can be done with the source code being unavailable anyway.
pmapedit by NoOne allows adding new enemies with custom animations and such. See No Hope in Sight mod. Besides having totally new enemies for Blood is not easy if the artstyle is supposed to be remain the same.
I took your advice from last time, Bloatoid, and tried many of the vast array of mods available for Blood. Not all of them, mind you, but at least the ones you reccommended.
RatM was solid but felt like what someone who just started playing Blood would think the first episode of Blood was like. Hitscanner hell. Lots of savescumming. I nearly lost it at the second-to-last level when you were forced to take an elevator straight up into a firing squad of three tommygunners. Not really looking forward to coming back to it for the next episode (except for the cutscenes). Also committed the cardinal sin of unbreakable decorations.
Way of Ira was just unpleasant. The secret level's less linearly-structured flow was cool and I'd love to see more of that, but the rest was a slog of savescumming and sightline peeking against cultists who are placed at the perfect range to be frustrating to kill. Also a general lack of polish. A lot of the levels felt very empty. Hope to see the guy improve in the future and maybe iterate on those cooler design elements.
French Meat was amazing. It felt almost exactly like vanilla Blood. Shame the boss level's bugged but aside from that it's great. It does lack that level of spectacle I find in your maps though.
Somewhere Under the Sea was GORGEOUS. Had a little bit of an advantage in that it got to ape Bioshock's breathtaking visuals but the implementation was nonetheless brilliant. Unfortunately it was miserable to play through. Four butchers right out the gate set the tone for what I was going to have to put up with in this mapset. Some were very difficult but fair challenges like the two hounds in the tiny boiler room. The others were...well, the consistent addition of a Chosen Cultist at the end of every map in a room that was way too tiny to fight a Beast. Literally all 3 maps. I cheesed them all and finished the whole thing but bloody hell I never want to come back to that.
Fortunately Spill got to really flex that improved encounter design in Eviction. The level design, the personality, and the spectacle are all just about on-point with what I love about Death Wish - with all the flair from his work on Under the Sea. Beautiful. Only a little ******** a couple times.
Fleshed Out was great for like..the first three and a half levels. The concept of a Blood slaughtermap was actually quite fun. Revelling in the chaos. Unfortunately this is the one map pack I could not bring myself to finish because they DO NOT give you enough ammo to match these enemy counts. I had just about emptied every ounce of ammo I had by the fourth level (by the way, not a huge fan of the use of hitscanners in the mansion. Pretty irritating). The game throws an entire Cerberus at me along with like 20 zombies. Sure I can use the cerberus to kill the zombies but am I just going to pull the ammo for the cerberus outta my ***? And that would have been enough, but then there's the part after with like six gargoyles, two cerberuses, a smattering of zombies and a wholeass mother spider. Aviation after it dials that back and I got to come out with a tidy ammo profit, but then the following level brings this issue back in spades. Plus it crashed my game. Only mapset I didn't see to the finish.
The second episode for Fleshed Out looks amazing though. Something more along your style. I do kind of wish that he would have stuck to that slaughtermap style though, and just left more ammo drops. It was quite a unique experience.
I could not get Bloody Pulp Fiction or Alone in the Dark working on ANY sourceport up to and including dosbox. Even the "GDX Ready version."
NHIS was beautiful. Gorgeous. An excellent display of what pmapedit can do for teh Blood modding community.
It was also the single most horrible map I have ever had the displeasure of trying to play through.
I've told you all this because I want to drive home the point that I consider your maps to be THE best out there. Some have come close, but to date none have surpassed it. So I want to say with the utmost clarity that I CANNOT ******* wait to try a whole new episode of maps from Bloatoid.
Thanks, I'll try to keep everyone updated as I move along! The current map I'm working on is really tricky to edit (you'll see why when I post a screenshot at some point) so hopefully it's worth the trouble :-) I've been poking around with some level themes I usually hate to play ("water" level, "sewer" level, etc.) to see if I can make something cool by mixing them with other, more interesting ideas.
In the meantime, French Meat 2 is available since you liked the first one: Moddb.com
Also, if you search for maps by "Tekedon" you'll find a lot of cool stuff that isn't packaged into a full episode.
This is exciting to hear about! I can't wait! :-D
Fantastic! It looks like the new Blood 2 is coming along nicely.
Nice!
Crudux cruo!
Dude, you have to release this update ASAP!, Civvie11 is going to make a video about your map pack soon enough!
I'm releasing the updates to the original levels in a week or so for Halloween. New episode comes out next year.
Hi man,
Please release a e4m1 demo version please....i can't wait!!!!
I was thinking about it, but haven't decided yet. I'll decide sometime after New Years. Concentrating on this month's release for now.
Dude you´re insane. After all those years still releasing overhauls, updates and now a whole new episode.
