Crates and Barrels is a single-player "minigame" mod for Half-Life 2. It is a unique mod for several reasons, most notably for what it is not: it isn't a shooter (first or third person) - it isn't an RPG, strategy, or adventure game - and it doesn't use the Source game engine. What it is, though, is a collection of mini-games which use the Half-Life 2 characters, objects, and textures in several simple and classic video games that are intended for a few moments of comic relief. Written entirely in Visual Basic 2008 and using Managed DirectX 1.1, it is a first for Half-Life 2 mods. You will need Half-Life 2 installed in order to play this mod, as all game content is loaded as needed during gameplay from the Half-Life 2 GCF files.
The first public Beta of the mod is now available for download. Visit the Downloads tab on the mod profile to access it.

Well, here it is - the first release of another one of my mods. Unlike with my prior mods Todesangst and T2DEF, though, I have the opportunity to release a Beta version and get feedback from players to improve it. My prior two mods were single player story-based mods so once you had played through them, there was little desire to play them again.
Anyway, this Beta contains the six games I mentioned in my last news update. They are all fully functional and I am not aware of any serious deficiencies in the mod. Nevertheless, there will probably be problems and bugs, so please visit the forum link above and post feedback on anything you find wrong (or find right, for that matter, too).
Download now from ModDB and watch a video of 1 of the 6 games below:

Haha, that's interesting :)
Awesome :D
Interesting indeed =)
I should give it a try
DirectX 1.1, really? :p
No download. D:
Yo where's the link?
This is just too crazy to pass up. Link please!
oops, download is up now: Moddb.com
Wow! This is unique! :)
Heh! What the hell is that? Looks like Space invaders with a new ruleset. No idea what was happening in the vid, but it was funny, to say the least.
I thought this was gonna be another version of Suicide Survival, but no - Source modders actually have better ideas than repeating themselves.
rofl nice :p
it think its managed dx 10.1 or so tough :p dx1.1 is a bit old xD
It doesn't use the Source engine at all (see header at the top of this page). It uses a custom game engine that uses Managed DirectX 1.1, which is a Managed code wrapper for DirectX 9.0c.
lol wtf.... This is the strangest mod i ever seen for source engine congrats lol. great work on it anyway atleast trying some unquie :P.
Err, lol? ^^
I don't understand how this game works, but it looks funny..
omg HL arcade! :D
Doesn't work on Vista 64-bit with Service Pack 2 and .NET Framework 3.5 installed (also 2.0).
Which version of .NET is this targeted against? Why doesn't it work for me?
Pastebin.no
Sorry, but it doesn't run on Vista64 yet. I didn't have that OS available to try out before the first Beta release.
So you are the author of Todesangst? That's cool, I really liked that mod. I'm glad to see you're still in business! ;P
When I try opening the game (WinXP Home, SP3) it gives me a weird error message right when the splash opens up.
Perhaps needs a new version of Visual Basic?
