Without further ado, we'd like to reveal the newest CoH: Modern Combat feature available on our homepage: an online database of unit statistics, complete with in-depth information about the various soldiers and vehicles that make up our mod! Costs, requirements, abilities, upgrades.

Hi folks! Here we are with another monthly update for all our fans out there!

The month of July has been an eventful one for the team, and we'd like to officially announce our latest endeavour. After plenty of hard work by various developers, progressing and revising some of the finer elements of the mod, overall gameplay/balance is finally at a point where unit statistics are relatively stable, though by no means final.

So without further ado, we'd like to reveal the newest CoH: Modern Combat feature on our homepage: an online database of unit statistics, complete with in-depth information about the various soldiers and vehicles that make up our mod! Costs, requirements, abilities, upgrades... it's all there, in the Mod section! For example, here's the U.S. Riflemen entry!

New Feature: Unit Pages

Even though you can't play Modern Combat yet, we hope that the database will allow potential players to become better acquainted with our mod in general, and gain more insight into the way both the U.S. and P.L.A. factions function in-game. Once the mod is eventually released, it should grant players access to specific in-game details at a moment's notice, always useful for formulating effective strategies, build orders, unit combinations, and more.

In the near future, we plan to further develop and supplement the existing database, adding new content and linking it more directly to our faction layout pages, which we intend to make more interactive as well.
Please note that at the time of writing, not all initial database pages have been completed, simply because we'd rather be punctual whenever possible and avoid delays.

Hopefully you like what we've done! Browse through the database to become a better CoH: Modern Combat commander upon release!

Also, a huge thank you to Sven (aka "M4c") for the homepage coding support!

So that's it for July, and don't forget to watch out our Homepage for any future updates or previous press releases you might have missed!

~ The CoH: Modern Combat Team

It all sounds very nice, but I'm not sure I agree with the M249 requiring Air Superiority Doctrine, I'm not sure it makes sense? Unless it's capable of firing at aircraft?

arent fireteams usually equiped with different weapons to take out certain units? for example, doesnt one have an AT rocket, another a sharpshooter, another a grenadier and another a machine gunner? also, the background doesnt seem very american like.. seems more communist (yes i know the star is the U.S Army star) but maybe you should change the red to a different colour.. not to criticize you guys or anything. but i reckon your mod rocks and god damn, i cant wait to play it online with my buddies :D good luck and keep up with the good work! we love you!

If you see our website, you will recognize that this red background is featured as the background, so we will keep it. I do not agree that it looks like communism in the slightest.

hmm, can you add squad size info (preferably under the "details" header) to the respective units in the infantry section of the database? some of them have the info in the description, others don't.. but i think it would feel better added in the details table..

Squad size directly corresponds to pop cap

you could always add a NO-POPCAP option to the annihilation game type :)

Interesting update on the homepage...

A question regarding the PLA "Future is Now" doctrine: The "accurate aiming" perk for 2 CP; will it become a global ability after purchase that has to be activated for a time for some munitions costs and affect all Regulars on the map for that duration, or will it be a general upgrade that will benefit the Regulars-Squads, just like the individual abilities of VCoH, like the BAR-suppressing ability of the Riflemen or the G43 suppressive volley of the Panzergrenadiers, that are to be individually activated?

Because as it is now, the Regulars (good name change btw.) are marked as having no upgrades or abilities at all, which wouldnt be true if the mentioned perk is an unlock for an individual ability for each Regular-Squad.

But if it is just a mere global ability that affects all squads on the same time, regardless if they are currently involved in combat, it would of course be another thing entirely, even though I would advise to keep the munitions costs and recharge time kinda lower, due to the fact that this ability that only boosts mid-to-long range accuracy while negatively affecting the ROF might be a bit too weakish of an effect to actually justify 2 CP.

I know, of course everything is still a question of balancing and beta-testing, but If I had the choice, I would vote for it to become an individually activatable ability unlock for the Regular-Squad (maybe costing 30 or so munitions per activation), if you would definitely stay with the things at present that makes the Regular squad completely lacking any versatility and micro-management (like eg. giving them cost-activated grenades etc).

Right now it is planned to effect all infantry for a limited duration. Pretty much like "For the fatherland", "Inspired Assault", etc.

The current micromanagement of the regulars involves to position them correctly and pick the right fights. They are most effective at long/mid range, while they will lose to higher ROF weapons at short range.

However, the lack of grenades for the PLA is something we have in mind and might get changed at some point. Thanks for the suggestion of those Type-67 stick grenades.

If you do decide after testing and balancing to give them grenades; I would suggest giving them the same german stick-grenades like in VCoH. Not only this would distinguish the Chinese grenades from the stronger american one's (and thus doesnt affect the balance as much) but also it would be kinda realistic, since the PLA are actually enthusiastic users of the potatomasher-syled Type-67 stick grenades, that are widely employed to this day in the forces, as many photographic images of modern PLA infantry suggests.

Good update on the homepage - I like the new faces.

A question though; are the PLA helmets final? Because as of now, they are too much looking like reskinned Wehrmacht M35 helmets.
Although the PLA's QGF02 aramid fiber helmet does look a bit like the M35, it has some differences, as it looks more 'round' and pretty much like the US PASGT at the front, although it is straight like the M35 in the back:

Same with the body of the "Regular" model; which, as being a re-use of the Grenadier isnt that bad actually, but their typical black scarfs around their necks arent looking that great for Chinese soldiers. Are there any ways to remove them? If it cant, or needs too much work, then forget it - with a new helmet they are looking more 'PLA-like' already.

A second thing would be the 'Type 74 Flamethrower' of the engineers, which, I pressume, is still a placeholder from vanilla CoH.
The current PLA flamethrower is the Type 02C, which can be distinguished by having two smaller gas-tanks, instead of one single big, or three gas-tanks for the old Type 74:

And a video about a chemical defense unit training with these, among other combat engineering weapons:

Anyway. Good work.

The QGF-02 is in the pipeline but weve given other projects higher priority. Re-animating the body would be a lot of work so we wont change the model. We will add several acessories however such as a RPG backpack for tankhunters. Regarding the flamethrower, youre right but the current flamethrower will do fine so we put our effort at more important projects.

Thanks for the reply.

Actually, I've just found some pictures of PLA regulars wearing scarfs (although camo'ed), similiar to the model. Might share it with you for reference and general approval.

Also, nice to know that you will add more details to the models. As for the flamethrower, it's not bad as it is now, actually. It's not that one will notice the difference anyway - and even if, maybe you could just resize the single big gas-tank and copy another one right beside it to make them tandem looking. But whatever. No need.

Everything has to be weighted with benefit against effort at this stage. Of course there are a lot of small details that would add to the atmosphere. But is it something that you want so bad that you are willing to wait several additional months for a release?

Nevertheless we appreciate all this feedback, cause it might be considered for post release polishment =) So, keep it coming.
