The Past Ain't What It Used To Be... The first Command & Conquer received its last official update on the 21st of June, 1996. Since then, the game has been ported to Windows (as "Gold" version), and re-released in the big "The First Decade" collection pack, but has never received any more bug fixes. The C&C Gold Patch 1.06 project aims to bring this classic into the new millennium, by fixing the old bugs, supporting higher resolutions, and adding new modding and mapping possibilities. It also contains an addon-based language system, allowing anyone to create translation packs for the game.

I remember the PATSUX mission. It was quite odd, but I liked that I could build a huge base without interruption.

All Playstation and Nintendo64 missions have been added to the patch since 1.06c. You can play those already.
You even get LASER Orcas in the PATSUX mission :p

Well, someone mentioned to me that he wanted to translate the game to Polish, so I offered him the functionality of the 1.06c language addon system :)

Oh wow. Apparently there's a slight problem with this system; the game only gets a mission NUMBER from the item you choose, but not a side; it detects whether you chose a GDI or Nod mission BY CHECKING WHETHER THE TEXT STARTS WITH "G".

This means that if the new custom prefix replacing "GDI" does NOT start with "G", it'll load the corresponding Nod mission instead, completely denying you the possibility to play any GDI mission on the list.

Did I mention Westwood coders were idiots? Because, they were idiots.

Anyway, it's fixed in my internal dev version for the next release, at least -_-

Description

A little something for the translators and modders: the prefixes for custom missions are no longer hardcoded in the exe file, but adapt to use the same strings as the multiplayer side selection buttons, meaning they can be changed in the strings file.

This shows the change in the Polish language pack that's currently under development in the forum.
