I awoke this morning, and yet again, the promise of my mothers return is laid empty before me. I am neither aware of why she still isn't with me, nor am I aware of where she resides currently. Since my introduction to this world, I have only ever known war and unrest. Even with the completion of the TCN project, many still cling to the nostalgia of battle. What is it all for I still wonder, why do they keep fighting, why are people still dying. It has been almost five years since the Ascension Conflict officially ended, and yet the fighting continues. Not between the Brotherhood of NOD and the GDI, but between the GDI and everybody else.
With the lack of a tangible foe, the Global Defence Initiative was disbanded, only now, they are that foe. One would have believed that they would of been content with victory and peace, however, one would be deluded in this belief. Those of the Global Defence Initiative have been fighting for so long that they have lost their way. They fight not for any reason or need, they fight because it is all they know. They know not of the taste of peace any longer, only the taste of blood and misery.
A person of my age would expect presents of toys and clothing. Instead, I get a new aircraft and an exo suit. They are the best that is available, but is it too much to ask for something nice like a book or a nice dress. The short answer, yes. In this day, there are no books that remain, even the works of famous authors have been lost to war and conflict. In this day, there are no dress makers or tailors, only manufacturers of machines of war. Behind me is a history rife in terror and pain, ahead of me is a future of sorry and despair.
The nightmares grow more vivid, the nights grow more tiring. I know not of where I belong in this world of hurt. I once was of the belief that peace would be brought to man upon the removal of tiberian from this world. Upon observation, I realise that man has no interest in peace, only victory.
