That sucker had near impregnable frontal armor, and a 88 to boot. But it didn't have a coaxial MG. They only made 150 or so.

I dont think that the Elefant should be sude like the king tiger, only i
once, but used as a doctrine prize. Maybe players would pay to upgrade to the Fedinad, to have the hull MG34.
Well i think that concripts with some molotvs could destroy these beasts (humilliats the germans of course)

elefant - is the worst german battle experiment! After Battle of Kursk, where 75 persent of this machines were destroyed, remainig stuff were transfered to italy to fight with more weaker enemies like sherman and British Cromwell and Mthilda... That's a fact, so ferdinand is good only as replace for STUH 42.

I think you are confused about your 'facts' again. The Soviets had an extremely hard time dealing with Elefant tanks. It was an very effective combat vehicle, with a kill/loss ratio of around 10:1. Russian armour could not penetrate the thick armour; most of the 'losses' were due to mechanical breakdowns of no fault to the Red Army.

I'd hate to have this breaking down in the middle of a battle.

Great tank destroyer, they just messed up at first by not giving it anything to defend against infantry.

LOOL Bloody_Hell i bet you have no clue what you're actually talkign about, right? I don't know where you got these ridiculous information but it's full of FAIL. you should stop viewing only russian propaganda pages like "battlefield(dot)ru.

the Elefant/Ferdinand had very good armour protection on the side (80mm, even thicker than the frontal armour plate of the T34 lol) by the way, NOTICE that the T34 was unable to penetrate the sides of the Ferdinand. if you don't belive, do some serious research about soviet testing trials of captured german tanks. even the top and bottom armour plates (30mm) were as much as the side armour of the T34 HAHA!

not 200, but 91 available Ferdinands were put to use in the Battle of Kursk, the first combat the Ferdinand saw. Although they destroyed many Russian tanks, they performed quite poorly in other respects. Within the first four days nearly half of the vehicles were out of service, mostly due to technical problems. Actual combat losses to direct Soviet action were very low as the Ferdinand's very thick armor protected it from almost all Soviet antitank weaponry.

most damaged Ferdinands had to be abandoned as they were too heavy to tow and others were lost to mechanical breakdown during the retreat.
just imagine, what would it be like if the Ferdinand had no mechanical failure. for example, if all Ferdinands were ready for comat without breakdowns, the Russians would have lost the battle of Kurst!

Also, I totally agree with WartyX. In terms of kills per loss, the Ferdinand/Elefant might well have been the most successful tank destroyer employed during the war, reaching an average ratio of approximately 10:1. This impressive ratio was primarily due to its extreme firepower / protection ratio, which gave it an enormous advantage when used in a defensive role. However, poor mobility and mechanical unreliability greatly diminished its offensive capability.

'the Elefant/Ferdinand had very good armour protection on the side (80mm, even thicker than the frontal armour plate of the T34 lol)'

T-34's armour was sloped at 60 degree's giving it the strength of steel 100mm thick. Also, I remember specifically you saying that comparing an IS2- and Tiger was "unfair"... so is comparing a T-34 Medium Tank with a Ferdinand Heavy Tank Destroyer fairer? Please shut up before I have to point out that Germany was decimated by the Russians. Oh ****, I just did.

Sorry but look for elephant parametrs in inet! You will be surprised! its armor EXTEREMLY weak at the boyh sides and roof! There were no armour from the behind! it was a really easy target for infantry, i'am even not talking about T-34! by the way you said about ratio 1to10? so easy to calculate! There were 150 - 200 machines of this type under Kursk! so at your logic we lost 1500 - 2000 of our tanks! BUT 1089 - it's all we have(in this sector) during the CITADEL operation! And remainig stuff captured my town Kharkiv 23 of august 1943! We can't lose so much tanks because during the battle of Kursk we were having lower number! This machine was extreamly heavy and never after this battle used in ussr!

A 10:1 kill ratio means that for every one Elefant that was DESTROYED, ten Soviet tanks were destroyed, NOT every one Elefant that was ever BUILT.

There were only about 80 made.....not 150-200. This is labeled elefant which had armor thicker than most german battleships all around it....and a coaxle machine gun in front. The ferdinand had no machine gun and less armor. Looks good except for the fact it seems a little small...its bigger than a tiger 1 even tho it was made on a failed suspension designed by ferdinand.

I have a Story somewhere in one of my SS books where these 7o ss or so were sitting in these trenches around a village and they saw a group of 4 t34's quite a ways a way and they all had the same thought going through their head "oh man we're screwed" And then there was a loud BOOM and not 10 seconds later 1 was in flames and they turned to see a kingtiger rolling up beihnd them and he killed all of the t34's in a matter of minutes with taking only one t34's shell that actually hit the ground around 6feet way...so i wouldnt say t34s are that great though they are one of the only allied tanks ever stand up to a kingtiger or such.

Your comparing a Medium Tank to the Heaviest tank in the German army... you might as well compare a .22 rifle to a Javelin Missile.

Yeah BurroDiablo is absolutely right you can´t compare the "strongest" tank of WWII with a meduim-battletank. If, then u should at least use the IS-152 as comparison size.
