That's just Opinion, I "THINK" that the Panther or the Tiger were the best tanks, they were better than T-34s but the downside is that they were also more expensive :)

The best all around tank of WW2 is more a matter of opinion between the Panther, Tiger, T34 and the Sherman. All four of them were the most important tanks during the second world war.

However, according to real battle statistics and combat reports, the best tank in terms of kills per losses was either the Tiger II (King Tiger) or the Heavy panzerjäger "Elefant/Ferdinand" which both have reached the best kill-to-loss ratios due to high enemy kills for a loss of very low own units.

The T34 is the only tank though to be recognized to have changed the outcome of the war, due to the highest production rate of all AFVs of WW2.

the Tiger was WAY too heavy and was only realy used for ambushing (theres your kill ratio), the Sherman was a crap tank with weak armor and originally a weak gun for mass production, the T-34 was great tank and could easily best a sherman but imho the panther is the best because it had a powerful gun, strong armor and was very mobile, so it excelled in all qualities but not excessively in one quality which would leave others lacking.

Sherman was nickanmed 'A Coffin for 5 brothers' by Soviet soldiers... Grant was nicknamed 'A Coffin for 7 brothers'... so as you can see, the Soviets held American tanks in high regard :P

And Rommmel practically called the Americans crap after the battle (more like rout) of the Kasserine Pass in North Africa, it appears the Germans agree with the Russians o.O

the best tank 1 on 1 was the king tiger (on the open fields of the soviet union not the forest of the battle of the bulge. but you have to remember there were 50,000 t34 and shermans variants. thats 100,000 tank. the germans made made less than 20,000 from 1936-1945 and less than a fourth of those were tiger variants or panthers

T-34's were damn good tanks, for the price of a single tiger, the USSR produced over 60 T-34's. Plus, you have to take into account out of combat factors. The tiger was unreliable, in that it would break down ever 12 kilometers or so. Then, the parts were hard to replace, meaning a simple drive jam, torn track, or shattered wheel would take up to 3 hours to fix. Then, it got bogged down a lot, due to poor brake horsepower per tonne. Even then, its sheer weight meant it could not be loaded on trains easily, or cross many bridges. And if a repair bridge or pontoon was set up to navigate a river, which Russia becomes stock with in the summer, the Tiger was entirely incapable of crossing it. Both on and off the field, it was a nightmare, but for different sides in each respect.

The T-34 was a good tank in that it was cheap, and fairly well balanced (you needed dedicated AT weapons to take it out). In gamer terms, it was "spammable".

I've been playing 'Red tide' lately and the more I look on those screen the more I become inpatient about the release of 'Eastern front'. It will surely put 'more action' in already full-of-action game. Fingers crossed!

The T34/85 advantage is that it is deployed in large numbers and is equipped with that powerfull 85mm gun so it can defeat Tigers and Panthers if well employed. The old 76mm sucked against german heavy tanks

f I remember right the tiger couldn't drive and shoot at the same time, it had to stop to fire and that made it a easy target (i don't remember if it was the tiger but i know it was a well known german tank tough) sorry for my bad english

The T-34 wasnt that great of a tank. After 4-5 shots the interior was full of smoke causing the hatches on the tank to have to be opened so the crew could breathe. Seems like a really "safe" thing to do during combat let alone in urban areas of combat.

In my opinion if you want to also count battlefield capabilities than the panther was possibly the best tank. German comparison of German tanks with the new (at the time) Russian T-34/85 and JS-II (122mm), from March 23rd of 1944, stated that: "The Panther is far superior to the T34-85 for frontal fire (Panther Ausf G could penetrate frontal armor of T-34/85 at 800m, while T-34/85 could penetrare frontal armor of Panther Ausf G at 500m), approximately equal for side and rear fire, superior to the JS for frontal fire and inferior for side and rear fire." In 1943 and 1944, Panther was able to destroy any enemy tank in existence at ranges of 2000m, while in general veteran Panther crews reported 90 percent hit rate at ranges up to 1000m. According to US Army Ground Forces statistics, destruction of a single Panther was achieved after destruction of 5 M4 Shermans or some 9 T-34s.

"To destroy a Panther, a tank destroyer with a three inch (Gun Motor Carriage M10) or 76mm gun (Gun Motor Carriage M18 Hellcat) would have to aim for the side or rear of the turret, the opening through which the hull-mounted machine gun projected, or for the underside of the gun shield (mantlet)." - U.S. Army report prior to September of 1944.

German Tanks completely sucked. They were a pain in the *** to build and maybe they were better than the american tanks, but god for like every one tank they had we had like 5000. This is an instance where quantity beats the living hell outta quality.

this is just a broad generalization. and when it boils down WE WON WWII so obviously they did not have the best tanks. if they did then i might go to sleep with a giant tv screen looming over my bed.

there tanks were better (for the most part) but for every tank they had the allies had 5. so they were doomed to fail. there main tank the panzer IV was about even to t34s or shermans
