Coda is a modification of Unreal Tournament 3 which focuses on thoughtful, unforgiving, competitive, fast paced and stylish gameplay. It will provide several interesting systems which players will have to use in harmony in order to defeat their opponents. Initially the mod will focus around an original sword fighting system based on mouse movements. Next magic and psionic energy systems will be implemented, and tightly integrated into the sword fighting gameplay. Coda will feature a player control system which borrows mechanics from fighting games such as Guilty Gear. Several maps and completely original characters are planned. Stay tuned for frequent updates, this mod is currently under rapid development.

Coda Wants You! To enter the Coda Sword Design Contest. To enter go to the Coda forums and submit original concept art for a sword under the post "Sword Contest". You may also email your entry to swordcontest@codamod.com.

The winning entry as judged by the Coda team will be modeled by Denrei and put into a future release of Coda. But that's not all...the winner will also win the below pictured NordicTrack Sequoia*, which you may recognize from your grandfather's workout room where it sat unused for decades next to a medicine ball and picture of Charles Atlas. Top entries including the winning entry will also receive the opportunity to play test the alpha version of Coda prior to release. Winner can also have a copy of Half Life 2 off of Steam, that's optional though, NordicTrack is mandatory.

*Winner must travel to Wisconsin to pick up the NordicTrack in person. Please come alone and don't wear a wire. If the winner is unable to make arrangements to pick up the NordicTrack the Coda team will hang a sign on it proudly displaying the winner's name for all to see and by all I mean of course just the Coda team as we never leave our home and have no other friends.

And finally to get you in a Coda mood here's a new screen of a map called "Coda-May" that Denrei's been working on. If you're a mapper and want to help please email Coda at jobs@codamod.com.

In light of SinKing's comment I just wanted to update this story to provide some more info on what we are looking for in a sword concept. The sword you design will be wielded by its owner with one hand. Swords can be of any size in the Coda universe though so anything from a dagger sized blade up to a buster sword would be fine. Swords in Coda should not be energy weapons, for example lightsabers. However, eventually the swords in Coda will glow as they are charged with the various elements, fire, water, earth etc. So if your sword has parts that can glow that would be good otherwise eventually the whole sword will glow. If still in doubt thinking along the lines of Final Fantasy may help.

Can this machine knit sweaters, or is it just a device that makes walking straight (or anywhere in fact) very hard to do?
"Concept Art for a sword" is really a brilliantly detailed description. Yet, I'd like to know what's the theme of the sword and if it's supposed to be wielded with one or two hands. Looks fairly medieval/straight to me, so it's probably be a blade like those from the Renaissance? Enlighten the path for those, who don't own a Nordic Track, yet.
