Testing a heavily modified SoC heli_combat.script altered to select it's own targets dynamically instead of predefined targets through custom logic. I modified my stalker scripted combat planner to target helicopters. It works pretty good after only slight tweaking.
This scenario is set up only for testing purposes. Under normal circumstances we won't have military attack everything in sight. Helicopters will only engage trespassers and stalkers who engage in combat with military squads.
There is a shit ton of work to do for helicopters left, but this a big step up. Helicopters will add a lot of expansion to gameplay.
This looks good, although the Hind is supposed to be resistant to anything below 23mm. Perhaps you could make RPGs more prevalent (I'm pretty sure they are a lot more common than the STALKER series shows), or someone might put together an AA gun for use against helis, like a Shilka.
The idea is solid, however, and I would really love seeing more helicopters in STALKER.
Remember why Call of Pripyat takes place? Helicopter operations within the Zone are extremely hazardous. Anomalies exist in the air as well as on the ground, and a helicopter can't exactly stop on a dime like you or I can.
What you're talking about isn't what I'm referring to, and I'm not actually sure what you're getting at. I'm simply saying that Hind helicopters are unaffected by small arms fire, and therefore being able to shoot them down with a squad of riflemen isn't quite realistic, in my opinion. I'm sure it will be ironed out, and even if it isn't I'll still be more than happy to fight helicopters, as it's a very interesting new feature.
Yeah, I know the helicopter shouldn't go down that easy to simple pistol/rifle fire. The way I work is I design something and than later restrict/remove all unwanted outcomes.
Helicopter vs. Stalker combat requires a lot of work. It's made a bit difficult due to engine limitation (Helicopter not evaluated by Stalker visual memory; therefore they can't 'see' it. I have to use workaround to fake it.
There is also no easy control over what weapons a stalker uses without scripting it manually. To get RPGs to work properly without blowing themselves up and firing at Helicopter will be a difficult chore (because the 'see' limitation); They will shoot a wall or ceiling and kill everyone nearby.
The scripted combat planner in time will be modified to handle and switch a Stalker's weapon according to situation. I plan to prevent stalkers from using Pistols and Shotguns, at the very least, against Helicopters and instead make them cower in cover. I will also make helicopters more immune to wound_fire.
Is there a YouTube upload for this? ModDB is being dumb again. :(
Edit: Nvm, checked your channel. Than you for uploading there too. Very helpful. :)
It's actually a different video about the same feature. I decided to make a lower quality video for ModDB to fit the 600MB limit.
I am loving the idea behind this. It makes total sense to me. Awesome work as always Alundaio!
Great job.
Looks awesome! I always wondered why helis weren't used for stuff like that.
Modders dine it! Great job marked one.... Errrr guys! :D
Wow, i don't know that was possible. Great skills Alun :)
green Mi down ! ;)
Can the helicopter be taken down easier with armor piercing rounds?
