General Overview of "Byzantium 3.5"

Version 3.5 is a final version of development of this mod.

Attention. Apply this mod ONLY on version 5.1 of the Divine Wind.

1. New periods (bookmark)

Two additional periods are implemented: "The Schism of Ottoman State" and "Ottoman Interregnum". The first period shows the beginning of the civil war, when the Sultan Bayezid was captured, his three sons divided his realm into three smaller kingdoms. The latter period shows the state of the Civil War between Ottoman throne pretenders. During three-heirs feud, several Beylics (principalities) declared their independence.

2. New Map.

The map was taken from mod DAO (version 1.2). This map delivers very accurate positions of provinces, as well as enlarges it number (total of 1993 provinces).

3. New missions.

In total, there are 22 missions, 18 of which are for the Byzantines. Most of the missions are aimed for the Empire Restauration: to take all provinces back and restore 5th - 6th century borders, including territories of modern Turkey, Syria, Israel and Egypt, as well as the Tunisia, Libya, and finally Greece and all islands of east Mediterranean.

All missions are now placed in strict scripted order. For example, mission for reconquering Alexandria will never appear, before Asia Minor and all of Greece are back to Byzantines!

4. Decisions.

A lot of decisions. Some worth to mention:

Byzantines will possess a chance to create "Greek Realm", Middle Ages Greek kingdom oriented towards to the integration with the West. A Greek Kingdom who has forsaken the idea of recovering Rome's Glory!

Another worth to mention state decision – Hellenization of Turks. In order to be accepted into the medieval world not as barbarians, as earlier were treated for example Hungarians, Turkish leader starting from Bayezid II were trying to westernize the army, state, culture... even themselves. This decision is something, which in the reality took place in centuries. Now there is a chance to see the results within decades. Obviously it is not a popular direction with the court, lieges, and political rivals within the State, decision, and most likely will led to Civil War.

One of the decisions was copied from Mod "Восток" (East).

5. Units.

New technological group "Byzantian" is implemented, along with 22 new units to it.

Roughly one third of which, are invented as the further development of Byzantine Army Traditions. Including, several units which appear if the Westernization as the state policy will never take place. For example - Byzantian Musketeers, Reitars and Dragoons.

6. Events.

Not so much of events are present in the mod, since I learned how to make them at very late stage of mod's development.

But one in particular is worth to mention. The is an event, regarding the confusion with Ottoman's throne succession. Well, you will have a chance, to place your own man at the Ottoman's throne. This is not a fruit of fantasy, in the reality this is a failed act of state sabotage.

7. Miscellaneous

In particular, it's state's colors, their banners, correct term for government form and ruler's titles.

Foreword...

Turkey rarely manage to achieve their historical glory in vanilla, I assume due to the imperfect balance. Maybe that was the reason, why the creators of the mod DAO gave Turkey so much provinces to govern at the start. Just Asia Minor itself has so much provinces, perhaps even the Holy Roman Empire may not feel jealousy.

Obviously, it gets harder for Byzantines to survive. Personally, for me, it gave more interest, as I love challenges. Though, I have to warn you: if previously it was hard to win Ottomans, now it's incredibly bloody hard! That's is the reason, why I made so much (interesting) possibilities, which will undoubtedly help Byzantines in defense. I call them "Defense Mechanisms" - decisions, events, modifiers - aimed to help Byzantine to survive. I'll only add - you will never survive, if you will sit in defense! You must act as well! If Ottomans will not have the mission of "Acquiring the most desirable city in the world!" from the beginning, you may have a chance!
