HANCOCK, MI
OCTOBER, 1987.
You are H. Decker Winchester, PI. You've been hired to check in on some missing teens who were last heard from when leaving to go stay in a cabin in the Michigan wilderness. It should be a simple gig, just a quick check in. Yeah, let's see how that goes.
The first chapter of "BLOODNIGHT: The Night of Blood" is now available!
This is a side project of mine that I've been working on for about a month and a half. This is just the first chapter, which will give you a taste of the tone I'm setting. The entire project is an exploration of the horror game genre, with level being a particular style/theme and distinctly different gameplay mechanics.
Enjoy!
So for some reason, like 3 textures show up as missing sometimes, which is dumb because they aren't custom textures, but whatever, here's a fix for that...
Is this still being worked on? It would be really cool to see a continuation of this mod. Chapter 2 or something.
* Nice visuals. The pixelated style is a neat change-up from most other Source mods.
* Great premise. I think the protagonist, despite seeming to be a trashy person, is definatly all he needs to be for this kind of story.
* Horror. The ambiance and darkness work together to create one of, if not the most, suspensful horror games(full stop).
* Minimalism. I like how the rooms are fairly bare bones, it makes each detail stand out from the enviornment.
However, I do have a bit of problems I encountered throughout the mod.
* The car looks out of place. It just looks like it was taken from an entirely different game.
* The random *** wood chipper spitting blood makes no sense. There's no build-up to it. Like yeah, it's gross, but it just doesn't make sense. Especially since it's out of the way, meaning there's a chance the player a) won't find it or b) will find it before they even enter the house.
* The HUD doesn't match the visuals of the game. I like how it was changed to white, however, the sprint bar doesn't seem to be properly colored. The text is smooth, when it should likely be pixelated.
Overall, I enjoyed this mod. It was enthralling.
Was replaying this and honestly the worst aspect is the cheapness of the black Antlion "Demons", it would be boss if you could reconfigure the Antlion Remodel from Get a Life to fit the low-def aesthetics of Bloodnight!
Love the voice-overs! Considering Chapter one was taking direct inspiration from Evil Dead, here's hoping Chapter 2 focuses on more action and humor like Dead By Dawn!
pardon the late comment, but chapter 2 is going to be a lot more goofy for sure
chapter 2 IS being worked on, i'm taking lessons learned from chapter 1 and am putting more time into making it much clearer what you're supposed to be doing, chapter 1 is also going to get a slight rework to make your goals clearer, as well as subtitles and some general clean ups

Ha that was awsome, I want so much more already
Holy crap! This mod was AWESOME! Music and atmosphere are both very well done! Kudos just_wax for the phenomenal job you did on this one! I am looking forward to Chapter 2!
Here's my recorded playthrough of this mod!
(SIDE NOTE: This video was recorded before "Missing Texture" patch was available, hence why there will be a few missing textures in my video. Didn't ruin the experience at all though!)
