First off, allow us to apologize for our prolonged absence - we've had much to contend with and it's been a very exciting (and sometimes turbulent) year for us.

However, we are happy to announce the launch of a devblog for our new game, BEACON, a sci-fi action roguelike coming to PC. We know this might not be your cup of tea as it is very different from Black Snow, but give us a chance to impress you. And if it happens to be right down your alley, then by all means follow us along the development of the game and chime in to give your feedback as we create the product together!

Even with patches and fixes it's still pretty broken in plenty of areas unfortunately. Textures are missing everywhere, the lighting is broken, entities don't work, animations can break. The developer also abandoned it to work on other projects. Which is fine, I guess... But people still like this mod and want to play it.

I wanted to report that I may have gotten this mod to work.

So initially I tried the vpk/steampipe fix, which was to change the filesystem section of gameinfo.txt to match half life 2's vpk structure. That based the game off of the most recent episode 2 source engine, source engine 24 to be precise. That caused a crash in the intro scene where something is happening to an individual.

So then I tried to base the mod off of Source SDK 2007. The two branches are not compatible, Source 2007 and Source 2009/2013. After editing my gameinfo.txt with the appid of 218 and putting |all_source_engine_paths|ep2 and so forth, the mod worked. You'll have to download the source sdk 2006 and 2007. Look in each folder, specifically the vpk folder, and extract these vpks using gcfscape or some other piece of software: 215, 218, 206, 207, 208, 305, 306, 307, 213, 381, 308, 421, 422, 423, 212, and 216, in that order. The latter vpks will overwrite the former. After extracting all this data into your source sdk 2007 folder, there should be no missing models, textures, or errors.

I am uncertain if this is foolproof, but it worked for me in the beginning of the game, so give it a try. Good luck.

Check the messages as said on Steam's post. It provides the answer to fix the problem with Steam's new system! All you gotta do is replace a file and you are good to go!

Hi guys, it's been a really long time since I've visited moddb and I apologize if there are any issues whatsoever with the current state of Black Snow. The truth of the matter is subsequent Steam updates since release have rendered the game really unstable and requiring a lot of maintenance to keep working. The game was made with NO CODING at all and relied on some hacks and scripting tricks to get going; with the new Steam Pipe structure a lot of folders are reorganized and these scripts are no longer functioning as they should.

Unfortunately, as stated before, the team is current consumed by our current project which requires every man available and are unable to troubleshoot Black Snow. Please understand that this is not a decision that was easily made. We will come back to patch Black Snow once more time becomes available or even port it into a better engine, but currently we have no plans of revisiting the mod. Once again, I understand this is not an ideal situation and do sincerely apologize.

Should anyone be interested in following our current project, feel free to visit the website. We will also be demoing the game at this year's EGX Rezzed in London, so if anyone are around and want to drop by, we'll be there every day!

The mod started off well enough, you got tension and mystery. You had to explore well and it gave you a indication of what you can pick up. The annoyance starts with this arbitrary light switching that makes zero sense why it changes like that, and if your left in the dark you end up being chased around and stuck inside a room with that thing right outside, forcing you to reload without a chance.
