Ignoring the base, I'm guessing the HD version might have the same number of polygons as the original ^_^
I can assure you it has far more, though polycount doesn't exactly indicate quality. :P
It's actually amazing how much better a game can be with small things, like this. Not that this isn't important, but most people don't notice small things that actually make the game or mod even better.
