finally found a way to add all of the available generals into the WW2 dynamic campaign. the price was that I had to get rid of the animated nation backgrounds. the big problem right now is that the biography for each general still shows up in the same place-- and this sometimes obscures most of the buttons underneath. but each button is still capable of being selected. this now allows for players to select, and encounter, hundreds of new generals in the WW2 dynamic campaigns.
this is still being worked on, so the final version might look different.
Now if only we could have a 48 match with 24 players and 24 AI all duking it out
I re-read that and just realized its 48 generals per nation
holy **** m8, thats overwhelming. Are they at least a little unique?
well, the maximum limit is 48. the truth is that the number of generals varies dramatically from one nation to the next. some nations, like Sweden (will only have one or two). Romania and Hungary both have less than 10. other nations, that were involved in the war for a long time, will have more. right now only China and Japan have more than 30 generals.
a lot of these generals will be pretty similar. but the names will be different. and I've taken efforts to try and make these generals as unique as possible while still adhering to their basic historical information and accomplishments. we've got over 150 special operations in the game now. so it's not as difficult making each general unique as it might have been in the original game.
I still haven't found a way to exceed the limit of 16 'kingdoms' in the WW2 map. so those faction buttons you see up at the top are probably the way it's going to stay.
well, we do have roughly three times as many territories to conquer in the WW2 map. so the additional names will be nice. some of the new generals will have a smaller or larger variety of special ops to choose from. higher ranking, or more capable generals, will tend to have more operations at their disposal, while the lesser generals will have fewer.
some of the generals, like Fredendall are going to be pretty easy to beat. that guy's only got defensive or low-powered special ops: Field Training, Skilled Labor (only works on engineers!), Sand Bagging, Double the Guard, and Corps HQ. this particular AI general probably isn't gonna win too many fast-moving offensive battles. originally I was just going to give him sand bagging, training, and engineers... but then I realized he was just too bad!
Reading his bio, it seems Fredendall knew how to "network" himself without having much skill...
