are portable bunkers going to require a unit for them to be active, similar to a city? Or, are they going to act as a lone entity?

I suggest you can add this as a unit which can be built from HQ (like Artillery HQ or something else). It will perfectly resemble the traditional artillery and add some flavor to the game

the trucks will be recruited from a division tent like a regiment. they will act completely independent of regiments. they will require both a motor pool and an artillery brigade.

I've changed the bunker's defender/attack component so that there are two basic attacks. one attack will react to the presence of enemy units while the other attack is based on a bombard command. players will be able to have these bunkers bombard targets and locations at long range even though the presence of the enemy is not detected or nearby.

case in point. I bought three of these the other day and used them to lay down a barrage at a critical choke point to weaken any possible enemy attackers moving against my Corps HQ.

when I find new cities being held by the enemy I used the bunkers to keep the defenders out of friendly supply.

after capturing the city I packed them up and moved them in to strengthen my position. since most of these bunkers have a range of 70-100 they can be used to support distant friendly troops. I used these bunkers to help keep allied infantry from getting wiped out by enemy mechs.

then I moved them in range of the last enemy Corps HQ and used them to support my advancing ground forces. they're handy for breaking up entrenched AT and sniper infantry regiments.

Description

first off. I realize that the truck is British and the artillery bunker is Belgian. I haven't finished reskinning all of the Belgian trucks yet.

the snapshot is to demonstrate that we have artillery bunkers that can be packed up and moved to new locations depending on the players wishes.

I had hoped to make every artillery bunker a packable AND capable of being built by engineers. but for the time being it seems I can only have it one way or the other. so, for the sake of simplicity I'm going to leave all of the bunkers as something engineers can build but can't be relocated.

I'll simply add a new packable/unpackable bunker as the default artillery bunker in random maps. I can then assign a mobile artillery bunker truck to be deployed from some existing division tent.

as it turns out-- command buttons can be relocated. since the artillery bunker doesn't use team commands or get attached/unattached from division tents it worked out well.
