as much as I love this idea... I'm going to have to pass on implementing this fully in the next upload. now that I've improved the anti-tank guns and weakened the artillery mech and artillery tank units it doesn't feel quite as essential.

I'm not going to be able to tackle the other issues I'd like to fix AND get this done before August. sometimes life and responsibilities just sorta get in the way.

Description

I have always hated the infantry recon regiment. I felt like it was 'broken' for a couple of reasons. it spawned as a complete regiment. it generated experience points too quickly. it was also too cheap. it encouraged players to mass-produce them for quick and easy victories instead of developing a more integrated 'combined arms approach'.

to make matters worse, apart from having a larger detection radius, they didn't really add anything to the game that might be expected of a recon formation.

the infantry officer will enhance the attack values of friendly artillery with a new enchantment (which also works on bunkers). it also has another enchantment that gives nearby tanks a boost in attack and defense values.

the front-line infantry have a smoke grenade attack that slows down enemy units. they also have a special escort enchantment that gets used on armored cars, halftracks, and trucks.

there is another mortar-based unit that will cast spells via the bombardment command. this will reduce the defense value by 2 points, increase vulnerability to armor piercing damage by 50% and vulnerability to explosive damage 100%.

remember, this is still an infantry regiment... so, it won't be keeping pace with your tanks and halftracks!

however, it's worth deploying these recons if you're playing against a nation that has stronger armored units. this regiment can give your tanks an extra bonus during late game artillery duels or dealing with late-stage armor/mech rushes.

so, after years of tinkering, I've finally created a version of the recon regiment that I'm happy with. oh, and it will cost you $40!

... you didn't think I would encourage people to SPAM these things, did you? ;-)
