The Air Power Mod is set in the year 2016. War has erupted in South Asia. India has invaded Pakistan after numerous terrorist attacks on its soil, coming to a head with the Delhi Massacre. India blames Pakistan for its failure to reign in these extremists. On March 17, 2016, India launched a pre-emptive strike into Pakistan. From there, almost all the major factions of the modern world became embroiled in the conflict. The Untied States, European Union, China, Middle Eastern Alliance (centered around Iran), and Russia all joined the war. North Korea did not lag too far behind either.

The Air Power Mod will grant players control of the air force of one of factions. Players will gain unprecedented control of the aerial war like never before. Although players will only directly control the air force, an AI entity called the Ground Commander will control the ground and naval forces. The Ground Commander will fight intelligently. Players will be able to indirectly control the GC by making "requests", such as, "Defend this position," "Take out this SAM emplacement," etc... The GC will do its best to accomplish these tasks, sort of as if they were mission objectives in a single player campaign.

The APM will introduce plentiful new systems to facilitate a deep and realistic experience. Players will be able to actually configure the load-outs of their aircraft. Basically, players can choose what weapons, sensor packages, or fuel pods/tanks each of their aircraft will carry into battle based on what the aircraft can hold. Considering that players must pay for munitions, extra sensors, and fuel pods/tanks, this significantly increases the depth of the game, and the usefulness of each aircraft. The right configuration can make all the difference. Additionally, players can toggle the behavior of their aircraft. Through this, players can assign escorts, instruct aircraft to patrol and area, etc... Players can also use this to instruct aircraft on how to drop their payloads (on any targets of opportunity on the way to the target area? All on the target area? Circle around the target area and hit targets of opportunity [AC-130U ;)]). The APM will also present fuller, more realistic air combat, with such new systems as an extremely realistic radar/stealth system, as well as the inclusion of countermeasures such as flares and chaff, and numerous other systems to ensure realistic aerial combat.

In the APM, the war on the ground is just as pertinent as the war in the air. Players will actually need to work with their GC (Ground Commander) to hold, secure, and attain resources (money). Even if one completely overlooks resources, the ground war is very important. In fact, players can even win through simply influencing the ground war, facilitating their GC's victory over the enemy's GC. Of course, players can also strive for complete air supremacy and bomb their enemy back to the stone age. The APM offers plentiful strategies, and will offer an amazingly deep experience. The Guidance Squads, one of the few ground units the player directly commands, further facilitates the depth of the APM. Guidance Squads can paint targets (enemy structures, vehicles, or even just a piece of terrain, mayhaps in the middle of some enemy infantry ;)) for aircraft to hit. Painting targets vastly increases the accuracy with which aircraft can drop munitions on the target. It also allows some aircraft to target things they would not have been able to before.

Finally, in order to effectively control one's forces, the APM will utilize streamlined interfaces. Foremost among these is the Strategic Air Control Interface. Players can pull this up at any time. Essentially, it is a giant map of the playing field that displays current positions of friendly units/structures, and the last-known locations of enemy units/structures (we'll also offer an array of filters). From this interface, players can coordinate airstrikes, assign escorts, etc... Essentially, it's like a giant strategic planning map. When the player is done, the player can press the "Execute Orders" button and everything the player did with the interface to that point will be executed, allowing for the awe-inspiring precision and coordination seen in modern aerial combat.

Overall, the APM seeks to provide a deep, balanced, realistic, and unique strategy experience. The APM will feature nearly all major real-world aircraft, from the aging MiG 21 Fishbed to the super high-tech F-22A Raptor, the APM will have it all.

Note: The Air Power Mod is for both Supreme Commander and Act of War: High Treason.

APM Site Up!

News 2 comments

A big thank you to Whiteknight for getting the 1.0 version of the APM site up. It's still under construction, and we're still adding plenty more information, but the basic site itself is up, and there's already been a good deal of information posted on it. We'll continue to update it with more information, as well as some aesthetic updates.

Site-
Airpower.supcomuniverse.com

Also, here's another piece of eye candy-

It was initially a North Korean Hut doodad, and it still may yet be. The NK situation is still in flux. Nonetheless, if we can't use it for NK, we'll surly be able to find another use for it =)

Finally, we're still recruiting, so if you're interested, check out our recruitment section of the website, and then drop us a line on our contact us page (or send an e-mail to TerranUp16@gmail.com.

That's all for now, but we'll continue to keep everyone updated =)

I read a bit of it,and it said "India has invaded Pakistan after numerous terrorist attacks on its soil".Looks like a good story, but it sort of is a bit inaccurate.Pakistan is a nation with a modern army wich can be considered to be nearly NATO standards, its not any Rag-tag terrorist group with no goal in mind except for "Kill the infidel!!",Pakistan's got Nukes and by 2016 itll be like 100 nukes. Sad thing that this mod's dead, but SC isnt the game good for making a mod like this.C&C Generals although would be a great choice.

No offence but this mod really defeats the purpose of SC. Its a game set in the future with massive units in massive quantities.

Coding, definitely. For the AoW version, we're looking to begin coding very soon. For the SupCom version, as quickly as we can get a team together and as soon as the game comes out we'll begin coding.

For both versions, I'm contemplating not coding the full mod first. Rather, making "smaller" mods based off the original game, thus alleviating the need for models, and also cutting-out some features, but allowing us to focus on some of the more challenging features and to get them ironed out and working in a smaller, more controllable environment. Plus, we can release them and gain some community support, and hopefully convince some more modelers to join, which I think we'll be hurting most for. However, coding is truly the most important part of the mod, and there's going to be plenty of it.

As for your initial question about dogfighting, a fair amount of it will be automated. The player's focus will be more on the strategical than the tactical. We'll try to make dogfighting look and work as realistically as possible, but ultimately how realistic will hinge upon the aptitude of the coders. We'll definitely have a system that's more intensive than the AoW and SupCom systems.

I'm also contemplating continuing to develop the mod after release with patches. By this, I mean that we complete the mod, and get all systems and functions up-and-running, but continue to utilize time, and hopefully extra aide, to continually expand and improve systems (for the AoW version, it's almost a certainty that we will utilize this strategy, for at first we'll utilize mostly in-game doodads; we're looking to release the AoW version first; AoW is already set in the modern day, and thus we can utilize many of the existing models, but as we get models coming in from the SupCom version we will release updates to lend the mod a more unique look).

Also, for the AoW version, Eugen (developers of Act of War) will be offering assistance. At the moment, assistance basically means that they will try to help us with getting stuff to work. More or less, indirect aide in the coding department. At the moment, to my knowledge at least, they are not offering direct coding aide. However, any aide at all is appreciated, and I'm certain that it will help greatly.

this looks like a really good idea, not to mention there are no descent rts modern day warfare games out there , I mean act of war..pls the c&c formula is so crap now.

2 questions 1.. how the hell are u going to implement dog fighting properly (isnt things like altitude going to be difficult to implement in a friendly ui manner)

2.. u gonna be looking for other help e.g. coding later cause I`m thinking I might want to help you out with this.

Certainly we shan't give up. We definitely intend to release the mod. Production is a little slow atm, but then again SupCom hasn't even been released yet. Pretty much, for the SupCom version atm, we're getting done what we can. Basically, what we can complete are models and design. These, we are working on. I've completed most of the design, and most of the rest of it hinges on a few SupCom-specific things.

Anyway, we'll be sure to keep this page, as well as our website frequently updated with the latest news =)
