I am loving these story updates - the writing is a huge step up in prose style and clarity from a lot of the earlier stuff. Really top notch. And you keep teasing so many beautiful ship types! Can't wait for this to drop, at least in a beta form!

I'm really looking forward to a demo/beta of this, if there ends up being one. I've always preferred the early eras of Trek over TNG era.

Description

A Romulan fleet approaches Denobula.

Though a founding member of the Coalition of Planets, Denobula lacked the capacity to make any kind of meaningful military contribution to Earth's war against the Romulans. Denobula had of course been involved in wars in the past, most notably with their rivals the Antarans, but even then, the Denobulans hadn't known war for nearly three centuries. Though they contributed to humanitarian efforts and offered shipments of medical supplies to civilian populations, the Denobulans, for the most part, chose to remain neutral for the duration of the Earth-Romulan War.

This neutrality was shattered when the largest Romulan fleet yet seen dropped out of warp in the Denobulan home system. With no chance whatsoever of repelling the invading fleet Denobulan security forces were promptly ordered to stand down, though offers of surrender were met with an ominous silence from the approaching Romulans.

Finally, a message was broadcast in response - all Denobulan vessels in the system were to be grounded or docked. All orbital facilities were to be vacated for Imperial use. Their homeworld would be spared only if Denobula made no attempt to impede Imperial efforts in the system.

The message ended as quickly as it began. The Denobulan government wisely chose not to resist. In return, Denobula was indeed spared, but the surrounding space was now firmly under Romulan control.

This was an unprecedented move by the Romulans. Not only did it mark the first time the Romulans had moved to take and hold territory, rather than engaging in a swift, devastating assault, but Denobula was on the far side of Coalition space from where most of the fighting had thus far taken place. Such a long range strike was extremely bold, even by Romulan standards.

As the Romulan fleet used Denobulan infrastructure to refuel, however, it quickly became apparent that Denobula was only the first step on the path to their true objective. This was only the beginning.
