Time dilation perhaps? Manifesting as slower firing rates? Or is that better for black holes...

will we have black holes? time dilation would be excellent for those. How about a speed boost due to less gravity or smaller size or whatever, and/or accelerated warp charge-up? whoever said stars must have a negative effect?

"Will we have black holes?" Moddb.com

"Whoever said stars must have negative effects?" No one. Some stars already have positive affects. Pulsars, for example, replenish your ships' energy reserves.

*puts on patented Bill Nye Lab Coat* It could also cause decreased ship speed due to the pull from the black hole itself as it is thought to have in real life.

Description

Max delivers another new star to the growing list of stellar bodies - this time, a neutron star.

Neutron stars are what remains of the cores of collapsed massive stars. When a massive star goes nova, the gavity of the star collapses and compresses what remains, the stellar core, until at the subatomic level all the proton and electron particles combine together to form neutrons - the primary ingredient of a neutron star, hence the name. Once formed, neutron stars do not actively generate heat and cool over time, and the force from the supernova from which they are born often sets these stars on a rapid spin - often fully rotating several times per second. The result is a tiny star (usually roughly 20km in diamter) that lives a fast, hard and short life - the rock stars of the cosmos.

Above their many intriguing qualities, neutron stars are known most commonly for their astounding density. Seriously, these things are denser than your thick cousin. So dense is the material of a neutron star that were you able to scrape off a piece of a neutron star only large enough to fill a teaspoon, its mass would weigh roughly a billion tonnes. By comparison, the total weight of Manhattan, including buildings, vehicles and people, is estimated to be roughly 126 million tonnes.

In game neutron stars are suitably tiny, but have the large gavity well of a star. This can be convenient for those moving through a neutron star's gravity well, as your ships will mostly be able to cut straight across without the need to go around a large star. We have yet to decide what effect these stars will have on your ships, but we'll think of something soon.
