Pulsed phasers, much like seen on the USS Kelvin in the first JJ-verse movie.

So, does that mean that ships equipped with these have a chance to shoot down torpedoes and fighters?

They're also seen in the Prelude to Axanar fan film.

In this mod they're mainly used to overwhelm enemy shields but they can also target strike craft.

In this screenshot the hits being taken to the Geronimo's starboard side are coming from the Klingon carriers group of gunboats. After the destruction of the carrier the Geronimo used its pulse cannons to take them down.

Description

USS Abenaki destroys a Klingon light carrier, and in doing so retakes a small mining outpost for the Federation.

Though the Klingons fought ferociously, Starfleet continued to press its advantage. The Klingons now faced a similar problem that Starfleet had for the last two years - Starfleet's weapons technology had developed beyond the Klingons' own, and even the heaviest Klingon warship, the mighty D-6, couldn't match Starfleet's advanced Ares-class cruisers in battle. System after system fell back into the Federation's hands as Starfleet advanced.

The High Council was apoplectic. To have devoted so many resources toward to the war and to have been within sight of total victory, only to have it all snatched away was beyond shameful. Defeat after defeat was humiliation. Several military commanders were brought before the Council to answer for these failures, often with their lives.

The hierarchy of the Imperial fleet was likewise infuriated, but not only with their Federation enemies. The High Council's delays and political bungling had dearly cost the Imperial war effort - the development of improved weapons and the Empire's next generation of warships had been indefinitely delayed due to 'lack of urgent necessity'. With the tables turned against the Empire, the necessity of these projects was now suitably urgent.

In either case, it was clear that Klingon leadership had broken one of the most vital tenets of war - never underestimate your opponent. They would not do so again.

Meanwhile, Starfleet was retaking as much territory as they could. Riding on a high of soaring morale and rejuvenated hope, the Federation pressed onward. The rumours spread by Orion merchants of a new Klingon 'superweapon' under construction deep within the Empire, therefore, went largely ignored.
