Description

A solitary Romulan warship limps home.

The Battle of Cheron effectively ended the Earth-Romulan War. With the overwhelming majority of their invasion fleet destroyed and no bases in the area capable of sustaining an offensive, it was no longer practical or worthwhile for the Romulan Star Empire to continue with its plans to subjugate the region. It was over.

Instead, the Empire would focus on consolidating its power. Withdrawing all their ships, personnel and equipment from the region, the Romulans sealed their Empire off from the rest of the galaxy.

The war had been a devastating defeat for the Romulans. The loss of a significant portion of the Imperial Navy's forces and the squandering of so many resources, all for no gain, shook the Empire to its core. The Senate faced the very real prospect of being overthrown as outrage and a desire for vengeance overcame the Romulan people. Ultimately, however, the military easily quelled any attempt at an uprising, although those Senators who had called for the execution or imprisonment of several military leaders suddenly found themselves without crucial allies in the military.

The Coalition, meanwhile, breathed a well earned sigh of relief. Even the Vulcans expressed pleasure in the knowledge that the Romulan threat was finally over. The battered fleet that had attacked Cheron disbanded. Humans, Vulcans, Andorians and Tellarites alike returned home to their families. The terrible work of the last four years was done.

The alliance of the Coalition had been of obvious benefit, and the bonds between the Coalition worlds, even the Vulcans and Andorians, had never been stronger. Mutual respect and friendship forged in war left many in the Coalition wondering what the future held for this unprecedented alliance.

In the meantime, one last problem remained - a lasting peace with the Romulans had to be struck. A tentative signal requesting a dialogue was sent to the Empire. To everyone's surprise, the Romulans responded.
