Dark Ages in the Rome Total War BI engine. Based on the unofficial patch 1.8 with many fixes. This mod is for lovers of early Medieval age.


This is the mod about Dark Ages period in history. To be honest, this era is very rare in Rome TW engine. Many mods are dedicated to Antique periods or Late Antique. But there is no even one mod about Rise of Islam or Frankish rising periods. I decided to fix this mistake and make vanilla-style project about these events. In last time, i`m working in organisation, which is loving history of the mankind civilizations. We all are working with historical documents and exploring the ancient ages. Dark Age period was ignored undeservedly by modders and fans. Now time has come. Time to correct this biggest mistake in the whole TW community.

Installation is simple:

Just delete old BI folder and put to your main directory BI folder from the mod archive.
Its already in english language (1.8 patched). Then start a shortcut from Rometw-Bi.exe. For now its not a switch-mod.

1. More factions in the Chlodio King Campaign.

Now you can choose 3 factions - Frankish realm, Ostgoth kingdom and Saxon kingdoms.

2. More cities in the Chlodio King Campaign and more regions.

3. New units for some factions.

Ostgoths - Ostgoths Foot Knights, Journey Knights, Great Wardens

Moravia - Lutici Wolf Warriors

Langobardi - Palatini infantry

4. New reskines for many factions (for Romans esp.) and for mercenary units.

5. New mercenary unit - Slavic Wolf Warriors.

6. Many bug fixes in the gameplay, textures and graphics. Many errors are decided completely.

7. Golden Warriors of some barbarian tribes are Berserkers and more expensive

8. Completely rebalanced Westgoths and Ostgoths

9. Other minor interesting things.

This is the newest update for 2.0 version. You need to install 2.0 at first, and only then you can install the 2.1 patch. See changelog in the descr.

I just tried your mod, and it looks really nice.

However, I see a lot of things that need to be done.

For main campaign (Dark ages) - there was no Moravia in that time, Romano-British shoud have London and York, Slavs should have much bigger horde and their leader should have Slavic name, Tribus Longobardi province should belong to Longobardi faction while Vikings should have Tevangeste (you need to switch them). Also, Berbers were not Arabs, so if you want to have Arabs faction, locate them on Arabian penisula, not in North Africa.

About Age of Charlemagne campain - you probably mixed up Slavs and Moravia, because Slavs are in lands that was belonging to Great Moravia while Moravia faction is horde in East Europe. East Roman EMpire should have south Italy, Sicily and Sardinia (Longobardi capital should be Milan) and Rome as a Papal state shoudl be rebel.
Slavs should have Nordalbingia, Hill of kings, Branden lands, land of Anti, Crnagoria and Moesia provinces. Vikings can have today's Denmark (Saxonium in game). Goths should have Catalonia.
There should be Avars, but because you don't have such faction you can use Huns and give them Pannonia and Ostmark.

About Charles the Emperor campaign - half of your factions is being destroyed at start of campaign.

About Chlodio the king campaign - the same as previous, half of factions is being destroyed at start, also East Roman Empire should have south Sicily and Sardinia, Ostrogoths should have all Italy, Longobardi should have only Noricum and Raetia provinces.

About Rise of Mohammad sons campaign - Longobardi should have only North Italy, East Roman Empire should have south Italy, Sicily and Sardinia, Arabs should not have North Africa, Saxons should have London and York, Slavs should have whole East Europe, Franks should have France, Goths should have Spain.

About Rise of Sassanids - Arabs should be in Arabian penisula, you can put Aksum somewhere else.

In general, Aksum faction should not have Sarmatian units. I really like Obodrites and Lutici units in Moravia, but to be honest - how it works? They should be in Slavs faction, not Moravia. Maybe just merge Moravia and Slavs together and make another faction? Or change name of Moravia to West Slavs and change name of Slavs to South Slavs, put them in their right place and it would be good.

Get Mundus Magnus or something as a map. Having Axum in Libya is a proper sore.
Also, include Islam as a religion.

Yah sorry. I got rid of the BI file and then copied your file into the game. Whenever I try to start the rise of mohamed caliphate campaign, and I try to choose the rashidun, the game goes into the loading screen then crashes. It gives me a multitude of errors like there is no start date, and other errors.
