Portal Multiplayer is now under new management, the Project-Beta team has decided to begin working on this mod with Kave and a few of his friends. Currently there is no set release date, but we are aiming before Portal 2 which wont be out for another year. Although Portal 2 will support Multiplayer, it will only support 2 players, we have plans for a few different gamemodes.
Gamemodes are: Deathmatch: Everyone against everyone. Team Deathmatch: Same as deathmatch but with teams. Team play: Supports up to 16 players with their own Portal guns. Coop: 2 player, each player can only fire 1 color Portal. Mod is currently in early Alpha stages with a basic functioning Portal system, NPCs are functional, and little to no crashing.

is it dead or when it will finally come out? i mean, if valve can make a multiplayer-mode for portal 2, then its not so hard to make multiplayer for portal 1. right?
Wrong! The coding behind the portal guns in portal 1&2 are completely different! The one in portal 2 allows for multiple players to be connected to a server and walk through portals, the portal gun in portal 1 doesn't...
...Then why not remake the Portal 1 maps for Portal 2 Co-op?
