There are representatives of all besides the Vanyar, mainly because they pretty much stayed in Valinor since before the First Age. Feanor will have his own little mini-faction whereby he is able to summon his stronghold and recruit his sons, etc. A similar system works for Ulfang, basically, their respective houses become available and at level 8, you can summon a citadel (permanent) in which camps are established. Because we only have 4 factions, we're able to make each faction really big and diverse, so if you want to rush, you can, but if you actually enjoy Tolkien and prefer to not play a 4 minute game to brag on forums, this mod has a deep enough structure to take you to the First Age.

Structures are stronger, everything has multiple levels (e.g. resource buildings are all 3 levels of structure), etc. More of a mod to play for epic First Age style battles, lots of work has gone into atmosphere and ensuring there are no residual elements from the Third Age to taint the feeling of it. If you look at zezkersar's insane skill with structures, there was heaps of pressure on me to actually compile the ideas to match it hahaha

So, flame to our arses, I don't think we'll forget anything :)

Godly! If this mod dies, it's probably because zezkersar will go a month without sleeping and actually die...

Completely awesome, love it

I don't think there will be Mordor, we've discussed it and it might end up being redundant because of the very few canon units that would've belonged to Mordor in that era. Sauron is already with Angband, and Shelob will most like be also, as it's not really feasible to make a faction that just has one giant spider

The other main difference between this excellent mod and Walroth is that this one has respect for lore and isn't plagued by the kind of idiotic bug that has 5000 buck heroes spammed at your fortress within 40 seconds. So no, it's not like Walroth, this one will actually work :)

The two most obvious powers I think Morgoth should have would be (in keeping with practicalities that work in the game) Summon Ungoliant and Coerce. Summon Ungoliant for obvious reasons, and a form of Coerce because that is essentially what he spent his time doing.

The reason I think Coerce is also a good idea is because of the Battle of Unnumbered Tears. To make it interesting, I think Morgoth should be able to actually pick hordes of units from already spawned units at the enemy's camp and when the invasion comes, those units shoot the enemy faction. Song of Melkor would be a good power too, it could throw things around Morgoth into disharmony and enemy units would attack eachother, or something. Obviously, from what is said here, the other logical power is summon Ulfang and his sons and the traitors of men.

I think Melkor should summon Ungoliant at a higher level, and she should stay on as a permanent hero until she dies. Special ability of hers would be limiting fortress/building/unit range when she is near, because she loves to devour the light. So arrow towers and trebuchets would work poorly because sexy Ungo is eating the light.

Perhaps Melkor's Coerce could also corrupt Elves into Orcs, for a nice touch, and those orcs would have Elf-like HP and skill. Also, Ungoliant should have an ability where she reverts back to being a dark spirit - she can't attack or cause damage, but covers the map in darkness and the other faction lose 50% visibility or something for a minute or so.

PM me and I'll rant some more :D

Visited the site, now I'm even more excited! It struck me as odd that so few people attempted it for BFME2 and ROTWK, because quite a few BFME1 mods had that theme, and some of them were really great! If 'Four Ages' was finished, it would have been amazing, because it had that really primal atmosphere for the Angband faction, but alas, as it didn't finish, it didn't feel as good as it could've been.

From the website, I feel your mod is very much switched on and beautifully planned! I really like the distinction between the Silmaril Hero and the Ring Hero, because that gives it a very early feel too, including a major factor from first age lore.

I had an idea for you for Angband, just throwing it out there for you to mull over... For Angband, with a limit of 1 horde at a time at level 3 Orc Pit, a band of elite Orc Brutes from the Fall of Gondolin era (Balcmeg, Boldog, Lug, Gorgol, Orcobal, Othrod - canon names, 'Book of the Lost Tales'). So a band of 6 units, those mentioned, who might be the equivalent of getting the black riders from the siege works in the vanilla game, or something like that..

That orc band can perhaps have a little more health that average units (for a higher price) and do more damage, but not regluar hero damage x 6 (slightly excessive). Perhaps they could have leadership as a passive ability and have some special ability like berzerk rage or something like that...

Either way, great work on the website, keep it up!

10. open the bugfix zip file
11. drag and drop it into C:\ aswell. When the computer asks you if you want to merge it, say yes, and then overwrite old files when prompted
12. right click the 'Rise of the Witch King' icon that was put on your desktop by your new, clean install, and click create shortcut
12. right click and rename the shortcut BOTTA or Turkey Sandwich or whatever you want
13. right click that shortcut icon again and click properties, and then copy + paste the following into the target box:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Lord of the Rings, The Rise of the Witch-king\lotrbfme2ep1.exe" -mod "C:\BOTTA"

or if you have a 32 bit version of windows:

"C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Lord of the Rings, The Rise of the Witch-king\lotrbfme2ep1.exe" -mod "C:\BOTTA"

You'll know if you have one or the other because the original target will either have (x86) or nothing.

14. Click 'apply' (or 'ok' if the apply button doesn't come active, I forgot)

15. double click the icon and start a skirmish without an enemy, playing as 'Misty Mountains'

16. Click the 'Drums in the Deep' spell for great sound FX

17. capture a signal fire for fast recharge

18. keep doing that at high volume until your dad smashes your computer

I can't really answer any other questions about the process because other than logging in to eBay, I've just typed out the only thing I know about computers

For saruman_the_wise and others having problems, I went through the process of installing this game so I could document it all for you from scratch.

1. open BFME2 folder and run uninstaller
2. if any files remain at all, shift + delete the BFME2 folder
3. open ROTWK folder and run uninstaller
4. if any files remain at all, shift + delete the ROTWK folder
5. install BFME2 and patch the game directly to 1.06
6. install ROTWK and patch the game to 2.01 (or 2.1, can't even remember now, but I think there's only one of them so you can't get it wrong)
7. make sure you DON'T use a game.dat NOCD file after patching, because that will make it go to a different version. If you're a pirate, run it from a mounted drive straight from patching
8. open the BOTTA zip file
9. drag + drop the BOTTA folder to C:\ in 'My Computer'

Virtually all of those error messages can come from residual files from other mods, and incorrect patching. I've played every single mod that exists for all BFME games and I've had to uninstall and reinstall the game more than 20 times, so I'll list you the main reasons I get those messages:

1. uninstallers of other mods sometimes don't remove everything, so even if you uninstall a mod using an uninstaller and then uninstall the game for a clean install, if you've not completely deleted the old game, some of the rubbish remains when you've reinstalled the game.
2. mods that are not put onto your computer manually (into App Data, with -mod command in a manually made shortcut) will often install into the game folder and modify its contents. As such, when you uninstall the latter kind of mod, changes made to new ini files etc. will usually replace the vanilla files, so sometimes you may lose certain icons (i.e. spellbook pictures will not appear, pink units, etc). In some cases, you just get those error messages before you start the game.
3. Properly patch both BFME2 (to 1.06) and ROTWK (to 2.01 or 2.1, can't remember) after a clean install or pretty much no mod will ever work, ever. After that, clean install this mod (or any mod).

If everything is done with a 100% clean install, I guarantee you will not have any problems.

P.S. A good example of residual files that stay after a mod is uninstalled are splash screens, etc. I'm sure everyone has experienced removing a mod and then having its splash screen come up when playing vanilla/different mod. If these steps don't work, your computer is a typewriter and a typewriter plugged into a TV isn't going to help you play this mod.

P.S. the usual hail to MorguLord for a sexy mod, DRUMS IN THE DEEP

Very exciting! How far along is the progress? After the collapse of 'The Four Ages' mod, it's very exciting to see someone of great skill (beautiful sample images you've provided!) making a mod that incorporates the earlier periods of Middle Earth. Will be watching this one very keenly, if it survives the trials and tribulations of a modder's daily life, I think we're going to have an atmospheric masterpiece of a mod!

Keep up the great work and keep us posted, mate!

People dislike my comments because they can't read. The idiot woman retaliated with a stream of words that made no sense and she got 4 positive votes. So logically, what can be derived from this? The people who gave her positive votes have no intellectual capacity, nor need for basic punctuation. They want to be heroes, men of the west, jumping to the aid of a retarded bitch who has failed to demonstrate any linguistic rules that are hammered in from second grade.

In one breath, she calls me a "man *****", one who presumably gets much sex. In the next, she states I am too ugly to get a girl. So I am a man *****, but also not a man *****?

She is obviously enraged and very stupid, and if that is what it takes to get positive votes, then I'm VERY glad I'm swimming in negative votes.

Whatever reason it is, she answered exactly as I expected. Like a brain dead, worthless piece of meat. **** political correctness, the bitch is an ugly retard

Cute comment, but you're still a woman, and your comment is only positive voted because you're one of the only people here with a snatch :)

Furthermore, your comment about my ugliness may well be very true, but it doesn't change the fact that you're an illiterate poser. Have you ever thought of punctuating your sentences? or is it more convenient to you to just make a stream of words that have no relevance and are full of **** ***** stfu starting a new sentence without a full stop it doesn't matter anyway because the last one didnt make sense and ur fkn ugly fk u

You're an idiot, you're ******* retarded, you have positive votes because you have a pussy, and women who look like you make putting a ***** up my arse a very attractive option. If I had 11 positive votes, I'd be much more concerned.

Regarding your "rapist" comment, I'm actually not a rapist, but if I were, I wouldn't rape you because you're an ugly poser. Now fire some love back at me, you useless piece of meat ;)

Additionally, if you have a personal problem with Halbarad's personality, discuss and fight in this forum if you must, DON'T ruin the review/rating system by giving a score of 1 because that is both unfair and weak. Review honestly, because this mod should have a much higher average score than 6.9/10, and it would if people were objectively critiquing ONLY the mod, and not their personal opinions on the mod maker.

If you drive a car really well, and your driving tester fails you because he doesn't like your favorite band, you'd be very angry, because that assessment spot is there ONLY for your driving.
So, why then are you surprised that Halbarad get annoyed at unfair ratings by people who aren't judging the mod alone?

Massive mod, made by one person who's native language is RUSSIAN, and he does it all in English, only to have some bastard click '1' out of spite. Put into perspective, ANYONE would be ******* angry with that

Checked out the new images, and I'll state this once again - this mod is too underrated!!! Black dwarves are an excellent idea! To those criticizing adherence to lore, shut up! There isn't a single BFME/BFME2/ROTWK mod that is completely canon, and THIS IS A VIDEO GAME. Make a BFME mod based completely on lore, and you know what you get? Factions with 2 different units, some factions with 1 type of unit, factions with no heroes or hero names, etc etc.

This mod is creative, all the way, and there is a massive range of units. What the **** is people's problem with that? Let me quote some braindead idiots, again, so I can publicly retort to their faceless ********:

1. "this isnt lotr, dont know how to describe this modification." -by MissionX

Retort: this is a third age mod, and Halbarad never said this was a retelling of the Lord of the Rings in game format, you idiot.

2. "FUUUU!!! This is very illogical mod. Bad... Bad..." -by DOC_aka_HOT

Retort: it's almost impossible to retort to this because this person is a buffoon. How is it an illogical mod, and how is it not aligned with Halbarad's mission statements? You might as well have typed "banana sand poo whiskers", because you make no ******* sense.

3. "Why the hell are the units, buildings and icons all invisible" -by totallotr

Retort: They're not, you need glasses or installation instructions, idiot.

4. "I see you." -by Murazorro

Retort: You don't need glasses, but you need to take your dad's ***** out of your mouth

Plenty more dickheads will be flamed, you're not attacking a mod team here, this is one person giving up his time to have his mod rated by faceless cowards.

Much praise to all who played this mod and took the time to enjoy it, next version will be even better!

Hail Halbarad again, modding legend

Agree with MorguLord, and the massive problem with other mods that have loads of units and subfactions is that it always throws the game out of balance.

This is even more the case with individualised units, because the same thing happens over and over - loads of Elven units are made, each with fancy new tricks and varying levels of stealth, making a faction that is all encompassing. On the flipside, we get a few varieties of Orcish hordes, who, regardless of price, are infinitely weaker and slower than Elvish units, and pretty much are not varied in any way besides the name. Just recently, I was playing a mod called the History of Ages, the higher class of Orc archer were the Morgul ones, and they basically died as fast as the regular ones and had very little, if no advantage. Black orcs, 400 bucks for a unit that can't even really compete with the most elementary Elven units.

That is the main problem for me, that most people make Elvish units infinitely more useful with subfactions, and everyone else infinitely weaker, and it is those people who have pretty much copped my anger and flaming from my first days on this site, because making a game less playable than the vanilla game shouldn't happen if one is making an expansion.

AGREED!!! Nice to see some unity among two of the best modders on this site! Hail MorguLord and Halbarad, two mod makers pumping out 100% quality and giving up massive amounts of time alone to keep this game interesting and alive :)

Both members stand as a testament to the massive quality that can come from solitary work, and any privileged dickhead who comes along to make a dumb comment and give a **** rating should not wonder why their stupidity is met with aggression. One person, creating and testing a massive mod, so many bugs can arise, and these two modders have both shown that they are 100% dedicated to using bug reports for fixes in upcoming versions.
