The Fourth Age: Total War

Mod review

A great, spectacular and just plainly refined mod. Fourth Age Total War oozes polish from every pore, with a lovingly detailed story, carefully and cleverly constructed gameplay mechanics, stunning visuals and incredible immersion.

Its flaws (such as the limited rosters for certain minor factions and the vast majority of bugs) have little to do with the mod itself, and more with the game engine it runs on.

All in all, I would say there are no perfect mods, but Fourth Age Total War damn well comes close.

CK2: Middle Earth Project (CK2:MEP)

Mod review

An mod i have been waiting for months.

The platform is adequate, though only adequate.

The mod's unfinished state is obvious, i've played three games now, there aren't that many bugs, which is promising. Though there are features still missing, the unique buildings are...bizarre in their implementation.

It could benefit from integrating some mini-mods such as the creackedtoot's graphical goodies, 15 additional objectives, VIET and the Fighter system.

Additionally the bookmarks are limited, but it is expected, it's only the beta.

Retinues could be expanded upon, though it is weird to be able to recruit Knights of Dol Amroth, when you don't even own the place. Retinues such as the Elite Ranger Company are nice and fit in the setting beautifully.

I suggest wilderness expansion to be slowed down, i personally modded in a prestige/money requirement for DoWing Wilderness, or a truce timer ala CK2+.

Colonization is also weird, the devs should take a hint from the AGoT mod, colonization should a gradual, event driven procedure. (Colonize -> Outpost -> Settler influx -> Minor Settlement and so on and so forth.)

Another thing in the same vein, wilderness provinces have levies and garrisons, despite being you know, uninhabited wilderness, a province modifier would work wonderfully.

Rebuildable Unique Settlements too, should be a event driven procedure, say i am of Numenorean culture, and i own Fornost in my demesne, for a pile of cash, i should be able to rebuild the Citadel, something like the Harrenhal in AGOT.

In the end the mod shows a lot of promise, and is unnaturally polished for a beta mod. The Devs should keep up the work and eventually they might make a worthy contender to the Elder Kings and AGoT.
