Heh, as I've said previously we've been really busy. I'm starting to learn some UDK in my spare time and HOPEFULLY start work on getting this running on UDK...

At least that's the hope anyway, I'll try and keep track of it on here with how things are going - It'll give me a kick up the backside to work on it :)

Dude, the waiting is agony, I know! I'll give you a catch up of what's going on at the minute.

4 of the original 5 team members now work for Traveller's Tales. Myself and Scourged_Wolf are currently Designers at TT-Fusion handling Handheld versions of LEGO titles, White_House_Media is now a Lead QA Supervisor for the same company and SamPenn is a member of the QA team.

Unfortunately due to the workload of numerous projects, the 4 of us have been very short of time recently, and in the process of trying to get it working on UT v2.X, UDK was released.

UDK kick started me going, but lack of time eventually got the better of me and it all ground to a halt again. Reall, we need a good few weeks clear from projects and also a programmer who we can get the core game running on UDK.

I can't stress enough, we want this running on UDK to get it out there to people, even if it means restarting the core game to work on UDK then re-import the assets we've created for the previous version.

Then on top of that, for a UDK release we really want it polished to (as near as) perfection. Looking at some of the projects coming out using UDK, we want CoS to be "up there" with them.

It's a long time coming, I know... but hopefully we can get it out there in the near future, even if it's almost 1 year after initial release :)

A UDK release is our aim for 2010. Unfortunately as individual members we've been extremely busy and I've not personally (as the coder) had chance to sit down and work with UDK yet, but it's something we really want to do.

Keep your eyes peeled!

Am still working on a fix to 2.0 and struggling at the moment. Have set up new mod structure etc but the first actual level (not the menu) doesn't want to load...

Hmmm... Anyone reading have any ideas?

It'll be updated to the most current version available. The jump from 1.3 to 2.0 changed mod structures somewhat and we weren't sure what we could and couldn't do in the time-frame we had.

It'll be done :)

I'm in the process of updating.

I have the mod working on 2.0, but it needs major testing and also some new things we couldn't do in the previous build.

Plus there's a few "ideal" touches we'd like to make before 2.0 general release :)

Have just checked the Underdog email and nothing is there. Any ideas where it may have ended up? :)

Have never had this happen before on 10+ different installs on machines.

To clarify, are you running Unreal Tournament 3 v 1.3, and where is this happening?

Where exactly does this happen? On the main menu where it says "Press Enter To Begin", level select menu where it lists all the levels or at the beginning of a specific level?

1280 x 800 shouldn't be too big a problem. It's mainly due to the HUD and Front menu, which, so long as you can click on Prologue, you can start the game.

It's added to the "To-Fix" list for 2.0 :)

Fair point. Will get it updated ASAP. This release was a version for people with 1.3 (or those willing to update to that) to get it early.

I have now included clearer installation instructions in the Main News Article, due to problems with Unreal Tournament 3 versions people are experiencing.

If you have any issues, please, please comment and we will endeavour to answer as soon as physically possible for you to enjoy our product.

I have updated the main release article to show the installation steps. Providing you are patched to Unreal Tournament 3 patch 1.3, it is a case of copying 2 folders to specified locations.

Hopefully you will download and install the mod, then have a play :)

Firstly, are you using Unreal Tournament v1.3 patch, not 2.0? This should easily be noticeable due to the Red background on 1.3 and Black backgrounds and menus on 2.0.

At this moment, the first release only covers patch 1.3 as we've not had time currently to update to 2.0 and make the necessary changes, due to a deadline at University and working full-time.

If you're on 2.0 it won't work, end of. So unfortunately you'll have to wait for the update.

If however you're on patch 1.3 (or patching to 1.3) and it's relating to the install itself and the installation guide I'll attempt to do what I can... As you mention, it may be something lost in translation, and I apologise for that.

Step 1: The first file "Cheeks of Steel v1 (1.3)", extract this with WinRAR as you will already have done, then the folder "CheeksOfSteel" goes in My Documents > My Games > Unreal Tournament 3. The same place your UTGame folder is.

Step 2: The second download, "CustomChar" needs to go in My Documents > My Games > UTGame > Published > CookedPC. Merge the contents of this with your existing CustomChar folder if you have one from modding.

Step 3: Play the game using the Shortcut in the CheeksOfSteel folder. There are 2 shortcuts, one for Vista 64 Bit and one for XP / Vista.

Once again, I apologise for the oversight on foreign languages and the fact some minor changes were made to the filenames last night, which may have knocked the Installation Guide out of sync.

If these instructions work, please can you let me know and I will edit in some clearer instructions on the main ModDB page, or alert everyone to their presence on the Download pages.

Thank you, and sorry for the trouble caused. I hope you will attempt to install the mod again, and for future releases I will include your feedback.

We currently have no official programmer, I simply picked up where someone else left off and have had to compile the mod myself. Due to deadlines at University and full-time work, we have not had chance to patch the mod to v2.0.

The character folder issue is maybe partly due to the 2.0 switch, but I based the install ZIP file of Prometheus, so all you should have to do is put our CheeksOfSteel folder in your MyDocuments > UTGame, then the custom Char folder in UTGame > Published > Cooked PC

We released it as is due to thinking most of the ModDB community are quite computer literate and wouldn't mind pasting 2 folders into new locations.

I will endeavour to create a full EXE installer for the next release. Or if anyone has any tips on how to create one, please let me know. So I apologise for the fact it's not as good on the install as some other mods out there are, but I'm sure they have extremely competent programmers :)

Guys - my fault. It's currently awaiting approval for the download. Should hopefully be approved ASAP.

Didn't realise because it's available for me to download, being the Uploader...

Yes hopefully this will be the last postponement for version 1.

Half of the team managed to find work straight out of University, and with everyone being burnt out from working on it every waking hour for the previous 2 - 3 months, people needed a break.

There's a few things that we're attempting to fix to get into this version:
- Clearer Objectives
- Better Voice Recordings in some areas.
- General tidiness and bug fixes.

So hang tight folks, by next Friday you can be playing V1.0 of Cheeks of Steel.

The principle was to use Unreal 3 to create a unique platforming experience, focused heavily on narrative.

In research we looked at what sort of characters were used in Platformers and based it on an Animal, and a Hamster was a pretty good choice theme-wise and style-wise.

As you say pvt.Johnson, the maps aren't populated yet. Some static meshes, pickups, weapons etc. to go in over this week.

I'm waiting for people to email me their parts over this weekend to put up on here.

Thanks for the support :)
