OK, try deleting your config.cfg file which forces you to start the game as though you were playing it for the first time. Then you will see all of the issues I have seen. Another thing you could try (it's what I did) is remove all mod files from you main folder, delete your config.cfg file and then play through the entire vanilla CoD 2 single player campaign. Once you've done that make a backup copy of your config.cfg file (so whenever you try a different CoD 2 mod you can start with a vanilla config file). Then reinstall Back2Fronts and play through the mod. Angoville will not end properly.

So do I. Try the solution above where you change the hunkMegs from 200 to 512. As I've mentioned before I can play this mod with no crashes. The modders on this site are among the best I've ever seen, but they are not miracle workers.

Cut and pasted from a previous post from WCP75 (Wiccop) way back in 2011:

Hunk_AllocatteTempMemory: failed on 1048621 byte (total 200MB, low 2MB, high 197MB), needs283965 more hunk bytes error.

Check your system memory, if it is 1024mb ram or higher you are ok,if under 1024mb you have a bad system. Go to the Call of Duty 2 main->players->"profile name" folder and open the file config.cfg, notepad will do.
Search for the line;
seta com_hunkMegs

Default this will say;
seta com_hunkMegs "200".

This is too low, you will have to change it.
Change the figure "200" to "512".
Save the file and try the level,again.You can also do this through console,ofcourse.
Start the game.
Open the console and type;
com_hunkMegs 512
Press enter,close console and load the level.

or you can turn on the console in options, open the console and type the following line:

com hunkMegs 512

Press enter, close the console and play the game.
Either way works, but it is faster and easier from the in-game console.

the Italian SMG (Moschetto Automatico Berretta M1938A or whatever) ejects brass down and to the right rather than up and to the left from its ejection port. Otherwise this addon combined with Marcomix's Real Weapons 3.5 (patched version) is a whole lot of fun to play.

The Angoville level's level end is broken. After the final objective is completed it never ends. Also, I have no problem seeing the officers on the Stalingrad Sniper Duty level. Occasionally a glitch occurs where they do not appear at all, but that is a problem with the level itself and not the mod. I have had the same glitch occur when playing Stalingrad Sniper Duty in WCP75's CoD2 Reality 2.91 mod. You simply have to restart the level and make sure you are killing ALL of the enemy soldiers before you leave that one building to get into the truck with your comrades. If I have to I will make a tutorial video and post it on youtube. I've also noticed that on some of the extra levels (Prison Break, SSD, etc) sometimes the enemy soldiers appear to be burned even when they are alive and shooting at me.

What specifically is the error message you get when the crash occurs? If it has something to do with a hunk usage error I believe the solution is presented in another thread on this very website. I am able to run the mod just fine without any crashes.

The weapons sounds in this mod are outstanding. One in particular I noticed that nobody else seems to be able to get right is the MG 42. My Uncle Jesse (Grandfather's brother) used to tell stories about his experience in the war. He served in General Patton's 3rd Infantry Division. He said the MG 42 sounded like ripping linoleum. I've also had the pleasure of being at a special test range when somebody was firing an MG 42. Your mod is the only one I've ever played that actually gets the sound of an MG 42 right! Great job on all of the other weapon sounds, too. They sound very, very close to the real thing.

Ok, I poked around and experimented with blood mods that actually are compatible with the current version of Back2Fronts. I found two pretty good ones. One was done by alucard (google search Call of Duty 2 alucard blood mod) and the other was done by WCP75 (google search Call of Duty 2 WCP blood mod). I've tried them both, and they are compatible with Back2Fronts. I prefer alucard's blood mod because you can actually see the blood squirt from the AI characters when you shoot them. Also, both mods have blood splats and blood drops. While they lack blood pools, head pops and body pops I can live with that since the only blood and gore mods out there which have those effects are not compatible with Back2Fronts because they also have modded skins and weapons which result in glitch city (even though I have tried removing the character, weapons and other clashing files from them).

I'm not sure why. I downloaded this mod with no issues or errors and in less than 20 minutes (high speed broadband connection running at about 54 Mbps). Unless a new version is being uploaded and the current version has been taken down...

I take all that back. For some odd reason (not sure why) I decided to use the binoculars to search for the first officer. It seems using the binoculars activates him so then he is visible when I switch to aiming through the scope of the rifle. I hope that Martin and the other modders working on this mod can fix the other (real) issues as well as tweak some things (such as AI using smoke nades and too many machine gunners/anti-tankers). I gave this mod a 10/10. With some revisions and bug fixes it could be the greatest mod ever developed for CoD 2.

I'm 100% sure the reason why they are so hard to see is because Martin made it so that those German officers are wearing their white winter coats. Change them so that they are dressed like the first German officer killed on that level and they would be much, much easier to spot. They are, after all, indoors and do not need their overcoats.

On a third play through with this mod installed completely clean with no other mods installed I still can't see the German Major across the square close to the end of the Stalingrad Sniper Duty level. For now I am reverting back to WCP75's 2.91 mod, but I will keep an eye out for patches and/or updates to Back2Fronts.

Ok, I must have not noticed it or something, but I just found a PPS-43 in the Leningrad level dropped by a Russian soldier during the initial charge on the enemy trenches. He was running right in front of me and got shot in the head. His sacrifice was not in vain since he helped me find what I thought was missing.

Also, please consider setting sprint to holding the melee attack key. I can't count how many times I have either switched firing modes or simply picked up a different weapon while trying to sprint away from danger or while rushing an enemy position to take them by surprise only to realize my SMG or rifle with bayonet has been replaced by a sniper rifle, MG or anti-tank rocket launcher.

So I was wondering if you are still planning on releasing a 2.92 version of your mod based on Back2Fronts and Merciless as promised or what? I have had your 2.91 mod in my files since 2012 and I love it. I am currently running Back2Fronts, but if you look at my posts on that mod's page there are still a few things to be desired when compared to your mod. From a combat veteran to a combat veteran please help Martin make this mod better.

Correction, the PPSh-41 drum and curved magazine versions are fine on ammo pickups. When the ammo glitch occurred I was testing blood mods and the one I was using was causing certain issues with Back2Fronts. The bloodthirsty mod was the problem. I am in the process of testing to see if removing some files from the bloodthirsty mod fixes the incompatibility issues with
Back2Fronts. 7zip is a wonderful little application...

Ok, thanks. Overall Martin has posted a beautiful mod that, with some tweaking, could easily become the best mod available for CoD 2. I even took the time to play the two levels on the German side and they were fun.

Here is a list of things I noticed during a complete run through CoD 2 with Back2Fronts installed:

1. During the Russian campaign the PPSh-41 with drum magazine only gives 35 rounds of ammo give or take a few rounds each time one is picked up while the PPSh-41 with curved magazine gives 70 rounds or more each time one is picked up. That seems a little backwards to me. The PPSh-43 (the all steel one) is never seen. Perhaps it wasn't put into the game.

2. During the prison break level (love it btw) German troops drop MP38s (expected given the time frame) and MP41s (they seem out of place given the spot that the level is given in the game's timeline).

3. Please do something about the German officers on the Stalingrad sniper duty level (the ones you snipe from across the square). They are impossible to see and as I said in another post you can't shoot what you can't see!

4. There are way too many AI soldiers (allied and axis) carrying machine guns (such as the DP28, M1919 Browning and MG34/MG42) and anti-tank weapons (bazookas, panzerfausts and panzershreks). Is it possible to thin that out some and give some of those guys SMGs and rifles? Also, the Russian PTRS-41 anti-tank rifle seems to be a pretty rare spawn during the Russian campaign.

5. Please, please, PLEASE take the smoke nades away from the AI on both sides! I got SO tired of either waiting for smoke to clear or having to rush into an enemy position blind and getting killed most of the time.

6. The Lee-Enfield's firing sound seems very weak and doesn't even sound like a rifle.

7. When the game is switching from one chapter of levels to the next it keeps wanting to load the final level when the Rangers cross the Rhine River and take the town of Wallender.

8. Removing bayonets from rifles with the use key does not work (not that I care since I happen to enjoy having them for melee fighting). Switching fire modes on the weapons with select fire does work even though I don't use it.

9. All of the machine guns (mounted and portable) eject their brass at the wrong angle (down and to the right). Thus, while using them the player cannot see the ejecting brass.

10. During the Prisoners of War level Cpt. Price somehow appeared to have a German nade stuck to his rifle just forward of the bolt.

11. After Toufferville the game loops back to Prisoners of War.

12. Rifles with bayonets that look like normal fixed blade knives keep showing removing and attaching the bayonet when switching between primary and secondary weapons as well as when climbing over obstacles.

13. I saw a Ranger using the Winchester M1897 during the Normandy campaign and rather than racking the slide after each shot he was doing the motion of working the bolt handle of a bolt action rifle.

14. Please add in some blood and gore effects. Something like what's included in WCP75's mod would be great.

Um, I'm going to say this as nicely as possible. I appreciate the video showing the sniping of the German officers, but I still can't shoot what I can't see. I'm not going to sit there and take pot shots and guess until I run out of ammo. This time I was smart, though. I did another run through the game with WCP 2.91 installed so all the levels show as completed and I was able to just skip to the next mission when I finally got frustrated with not being able to see the German Major in the red building on the left. I can get through that part of the WCP 2.91 mod with absolutely no problem because I can ACTUALLY SEE the German officers through the windows of the buildings across the square. That part of the Stalingrad Sniper Duty level in Back2Fronts needs to be fixed. Like the shading needs to be fixed or whatever causes the German officers to be next to impossible to spot.

This mod is broken! I couldn't get past the Stalingrad sniper duty level (the one by BabyCop) when you have to snipe the German officers from across the square because the first one never spawns! I tried restarting the level several times and it wouldn't work. Also, the constant use of smoke grenades by the enemy troops is beyond frustrating! Furthermore there are plenty of MP38s and MP41s laying around after battles with the Germans, but where in the F*CK is the MP40? In this mod it seems to have dropped from existence. I'm not sure what else is broken because I NEVER made it past Stalingrad! I'll continue to use WCP's 2.91 mod with all the add-on files until 2.92 is released...

Hi, WCP, I was just (like every other fan of your work) wondering when 2.92 will be released? I currently have 2.91 and all of its add-ons installed and I love it. Especially when I turn up the resolution to the highest my system can support (1900 X 1028 or something like that). Your screenies and videos of 2.92 look very promising and pleasing to the eye. I've even tried the Back2Fronts mod and didn't like it much save for one aspect. I noticed on weapons that fire from an open bolt (certain submachine guns and such) it's possible to see the round sitting there waiting to be slammed into the chamber by the open bolt. The skins used in Back2Fronts are amazing (weapon and character skins) but I got extremely annoyed with the fact that every other German soldier was carrying either a MG42 or a panzershreck/panzerfaust AT weapon. The lack of blood and gore effects also turned me away from the Back2Fronts mod, too. Anyways, I hope 2.92 becomes available for download soon.

Hey, Marcomix, I've done a play through of both Call of Duty and United Offensive with your patched version of Real Weapons 3.5. I must say I absolutely love the mod. The skins for allied and axis soldiers are quite stunning. One thing I noticed, though, and I'm not sure it's possible to fix or even worth fixing. The helmets that the allied paratroopers wear with the stripe on the back? Back in WWII all U.S. Army soldiers (Regular Infantry, Rangers and Airborne) had designations on the back of their helmet to quickly identify NCOs (Sergeants) and Officers. Officers had a vertical white stripe on the back of their helmets, NCOs had a horizontal stripe on the back of theirs and privates, PFCs, and Corporals had no stripe on the back of their helmet. I've seen Saving Private Ryan so many times I could have been an actor in it and I have the entire Band of Brothers series download from Amazon TV in my Playstation 3 system. This was just something I noticed and caught onto while watching those.

According to this mod's creator, Marcomix, the United Fronts mod is still a work in progress. Those of us who are fans of his work are chomping at the bit for this one to be finished. I was actually kind of shocked that anybody is still working on new mods for a 13 year old game, but then again I still play that 13 year old game from time to time so who am I to talk XD.
