Alright, I decided to post a review after testing this mod as thoroughly as I can... And the conclusion I came to is a 4... This is based on patch 1 & 2.
Summary: On the surface, this would seem like a great mod. The things that make this mod great are what makes it stand out from others, but the things that hurt the mod are what kills it for most people. In my opinion, it's those same things that make the mod flop on its face.
The sound is awesome. Bloodsuckers, flesh, and tushkanos really stand out in this department. My only complaint is that I wish they had kept the original sounds in addition to the new ones, simply because I thought highly of them as well... but that is merely personal preference.
Visuals are wicked, albeit lacking in color. If you're willing to look past the fact that everything is brown, the high-res, frightening textures really come through. Again, I wish they had kept vanilla textures as well, for variance and nostalgia's sake. I find it odd to see a 100 copies of the same flesh: so variance in the textures would definitely improve my already high opinion of the skin-work.
There is a huuuuge selection of guns in the game. I am very pleased with this.
The guns are nowhere near as realistic as people say. Sorry, but that's the truth. This is usually my #1 complaint for games and mods, but let's face it: this is STALKER, not Call of Duty. On this note, however, I may work out a patch of my own to fix damages and ballistics.
Artificial scarcity of ammo and medical supplies is possibly the most frustrating aspect of this mod. This takes place in Ukraine, where 7.62x54Rs, 7.62x39s, and 5.45x39s are a nickel a piece. In the mod, you're lucky if you can find 54Rs at all.
Damages are seriously bass-ackwards. A few other folks claim to not have this problem, but I am having a problem where I can point blank a STALKER or zombie in the head, and it won't die. Even with a .22, a shot to the head is it. Center-mass shots also dont
