Wouldn't it make more sense if you played as the Civil Protection/Metro Police? Metro Police are human and Combines are not, they are transhumans or some kind of alien(SPOILER: If you played Half Life 1 you should know that Combines comes from the Borderworld/Xen). And i think it would be cooler to play as a Metro Police :)
