As the saying goes Lost Alpha is the way S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is meant to be played.
A very good mod compilation that makes Mafia really shine. Slight alterations to the story - you should have played the original first.
The only additional mods I use are UDD,
widescreenfix and water shader mod.
Running the game in 4k makes it hard to believe that the game is already 14 years old.
Nice improvement from the original HD edition.
Level selector is a nice addition. If you play in 4k a must have.
Easy installation with a great variety of choices. Tears Morrowind apart and
reassembles it to a game which looks
amazing even today. I'm running the modded Steam version in 3840x2160 in Win10 without problems.
I never played the game before because I heard of the bugfest it was on release.
In a whim I decided to try it out now as I am quite intrigued with the gameplay and story. Running the game without a patch on a modern PC and OS (win 8.1) is quite impossible without applying a patch. And I must say Mr.Wesp has done a terrific job in making this patch. The game runs smoothly and the graphics look very good for a game this old and I haven't experienced any glitches until now.
As I bought the GotY edition on steam yesterday I stumbled upon an article of PC Gamer 'How to run Deus Ex on Windows 7/8' where GMDX was recommended. I have played the game many times since 2001 having still the original cd version. Since then my gaming setup changed significantly from a 22" CRT monitor to a 28" LCD with 1920x1200 resolution. The default settings of the original DX offer only 1600x1200 @ 32bit resolution. So I was looking in principle for a mod to render the game in a higher resolution. But I got so much more the game looks prettier in a subtle way respecting the original look while gameplay is more demanding and offering more of a challenge. All in all a perfect overhaul for one of my most beloved games.
