Two words: Deus Ex.
Deus Ex is, as far as I see it, a pefect mix of FPS and RPG. You evolve your "stats" and equipment, but you still need the skill to sneak properly, aim properly, move properly, manage your inventory properly and even talk properly to NPCs. Also, given the number of options on how to tackle your objective, you can always use your own preferred skills. If you have a good aim, go run&gunning. If you're good at learning the movement pattern of the enemy, go stealth. Or mix your play style.

Of course, going the Deus Ex way is quite hard, so, skill or stats, I say skill. But if it's singleplayer only (or only for the singleplayer), i think a light mix of both (depending on the type of game you're making) the closes to the perfect way. But multiplayer, skill only, please.

I remembered something. It would be great if, when refreshing, the servers are added to the bottom of the list (not the top), so I can double-click to join it without worrying about misclicking and entering a completely different one.

If you guys haven't, I'd recommend checking out the UI of S2Games' Heroes of Newerth. It's absolutely THE best UI I've ever seen.
About features, I agree with Noremakk. Being able to see in which server your friends are playing and easily joining them is the most valuable one for the player.

Nice! I had a similar concept that never really went anywhere, so it's cool to see someone making a "rhythm/musical combat" based game. The main character looks a little too... disney-esque for my taste, but that's just me. The scenery, even though it's a WIP, is looking quite nice.
Good luck with your project, I'll be keeping an eye on it.

World in Conflict is a real modern RTS. The only fictional part is the story, but I think that's understandable.

And it's probably not going to be more like Man of War because... well, because they're modding CoH, not MoW. It wouldn't make sense to make a mod for CoH so that it plays like MoW, It would be more practical to just make the mod for MoW. Besides, it seems that there already is a modern mod for MoW: Moddb.com
