Do you still dust of Half life 2 or one of the episodes now and again?
If so then do yourself a favour and give the Fakefactory Cinematic mod a try, A 10 part download may sound daunting but installation couldn't be easier and what you end up with is out of this world.

Yeah, the Cinematic mod is good. I played it a few years ago - the version where you can pimp Alyx's character. Can you still do this?
You can, I don't know if the version you used allows it but the character pimper has options for about 6 or 7 other characters and stuff like sweet fx and enb settings in the configurator.
Cinema mod is an amazing experience, especially the soundtrack. Some players really dislike the titty posters and childish graffiti, and I can see why. But to me, I already have played Half-Life 2, and I can appreciate it, and I can appreciate the Cinema mod for having a different perspective too, even if it isn't something someone may not like.
Same for stalker mods.
