Damn, this look. If I only had the skills to find out how the CoP Level Editor works, so I could add trees to the levels...I hate the non-foresty regions of STALKER. The game plays in the middle of a huge forest area, but if you stand on a hill you can see the whole map with every stalker and mutant.
Agree with you about lack of trees etc, the film itself shows a lot of wooded areas and a very green environment. I just loved all the images from this film, found it strangely haunting.
It's a very strange film, impossible to describe in a few words. As a Stalker player I recommend watching it, you can see some elements from the film that entered into the gameplay. It isn't an action packed film, but is a more thoughtful film with some memorable scenes. It's a deep film is perhaps a good description.

It's also one of the best soviet-made films I've ever seen...maybe because it's the only soviet one, but yeah...
I enjoyed Solaris (1972) as well, same director as Stalker (Andrei Tarkovsky).
very nice... yeah green environment color ambience.. that's why i really enjoy Misery.. (just kidding :P)
