Screaming Steel: 1914-1918

Mod review

It's basically free DLC for the game. Best mod for this game I feel, lots of original content.

Black Mesa

Early access game review

Okay, this is my REAL review. May contain spoilers if you're new to the series.

I absolutely think this is a great way to experience the first game. It's much more detailed and the story is a lot fresher. The puzzles in the first half are fun, the guns are familiar and nice, the graphics are beautiful.

Xen was Beautiful at first. It looked incredible but the chapter "interpolation" absolutely went on forever. It was room after another and the puzzles never stopped. It seriously felt like a chore and I can say I definitely hate what they did to that chapter. They made that chapter a lot take as long as the first half of the game. Fighting the nihilanth wasn't even exciting because interpolation took so long and was way too difficult to even be excited. I just felt so judgy and ****** by that time. The fight itself wasn't even fun. It felt very tedious. They absolutely butchered the ending. I hated it so much. Gman does NOT sounds like Gman. It is very cringe.

That first part of the game though, my god. I love it. After that, Xen. Beautiful. Way better than valve portrayed it in half life. Later in Xen it just never ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ended. Such a chore. The nihilanth was idk. Cool. But I was too drained after playing interpolation that it was ruined for me. They ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up Gman.
Also I want to expand on the first half of Xen. I think they knocked it out of the park. The world was breathing and felt alive. Right st the portal opened the scientists jumped right into finding a way to get there with their teleportation technology not available to even a lot of the facility to know about they got there and they left behind a bunch of research equipment and supplies. They were there for days before freeman arrived and it's so cool.
Where it started to slip was when you got to a specific island and found a bunch of combine technology. It was cool at first like yeah this wasn't touched correctly in the first game. They made it much for familiar and the first puzzle was fun. But after that began the never ending room after room puzzles that never ended. (I'd say it took me 9 hours and I didn't even finish it. I just got so ******.) I arrived at yet another ******* puzzle and just said ♥♥♥♥ it and used the console to load to the Nihilanth.

tedium

Mod review

I got like a sense of depression while playing this. Also a sense of horror. Does it ever end? I got a weird image in my head of slitting my wrists on that couch and just laying there with blood spilling out just to get away from this job where you wake up and 1pm and get home at 1am... This is weirdly simple and scary as hell.

I finally got a change. I just didn't follow the rules, and finally there was change in the air.

I still had a weird sense of horror though.

This was weirdly powerful in a way. It has me thinking.

Awakening

Mod review may contain spoilers

I love the custom models. Whoever made those, dude, you are awesome.

The game crashed when I went through the scary portal thing but I'm not done playing yet. I'm just taking a break...I'm tired.

The voice acting was...glorious.

Combine Destiny

Mod review

So what I got from this is there was a place that the combine made their base. It was taken away from them by a bunch of citizens? But then there were headcrabs and turned all of them into zombies. So now we're back to take back this...whatever this place is.

This didn't feel like combine at all. The combine wouldn't just send 3 soldiers to a place for them to kill like 9 zombies.

I understand that a melee weapon is needed for a source game like this, but the stun stick is for metropolice. It's an obedience tool to treat citizens like pets and only sometimes for combat. Now, what would be an alternative? I was trying to make a mod called "CyclopsRED"...it failed miserably and now I cringe thinking about it, but it was going to be this mod where you are an elite combine solider, who meets a metrocop named Gavin. Long story short, you wouldn't even have a melee weapon at all. So you would just bash with your gun and that would work just like a crowbar. See? An alternative fit for a character with no melee weapon.

I read that this was supposed to be horror? Not at all. Oooooooh, there's no light. Scaaaary.

Watching Paint Dry: The Game

Mod review

RIght off the bat 9/10 (I'm saving 10/10 for the BEST mod i've ever played). I love the stanley parable verbal irony in any game.

Bootleg-Life

Mod review

Imagine having to do this every single time hammer crashes.

Aftermath

Mod review

I think it has the right idea, though it is way too short. Watch out for having little noise in your games as it can be responsible for having a very unconvincing atmosphere.
