Not really much to tell... But I am 16 years old, 6 feet tall, 320 lbs (I know, I'm a beast. =D) and I am the son of a computers teacher (He allowed me to play HL1 and CS when it was version 1.1.0 or something...) so I've been geeked for life! If anyone wants to play any games with me, I play on STEAM, xBox, and some handheld DS games, but I'm mainly stuck between those 2 platforms.

Left 4 Dead 2

Game review

Going to start this off with a "Back in my day!" kind of approach.

The main goal of zombies used to be to survive and aim for the head... But in L4D2 you can kill them just as fast by blowing their foot off! It's a good game... but to me (as a zombie critic) I say that they (Valve) just made what they were good at: A first person shooter, (and added enemies that look like zombies.)

They should have added more of a "destructible body" too(like their goal was)... - They made it so you can cut limbs off for a nice amount of gore, or blow a piece out of their stomach... but when I shoot a zombie I want it to be realistic. - I want its head to blow to pieces in all directions and see chunks of flesh missing when i shoot them with a shotgun (and see them shambling towards me with no legs)... I know... I'm sick. xD But it's how zombies should work.

I'd recommend the game to anyone that likes zombie themed games, though... - It's pretty good (and the price is better now that it's not $50 (PC) and $60 / 360 or PS3...) so it might be worth a try... But it got old fast.

The story mode was very well written, but it didn't make me "wow" as much as as I expected to. They made it sound like it was going to be L4D but ten times better, and to be honest it was maybe .5x better because of some new guns and zombie types.

Overall I would give the game an 8/10 though... Despite its design issues and crappy take on the zombie genre. The sound quality is good, the graphics are nice, and the characters all have a unique personality (I have to admit, though. - The zombies do look good... They just need to act more "zombie"...). - In my personal opinion, though... If you took L4D1, added a few maps, guns, and characters, and sent it back out to the public to take as much cash from your loyal customers as you can - that's Left 4 Dead 2 in a nutshell.

8/10. - Good... But not great (and by far, too.)

Pirates, Vikings, & Knights II

Mod review

This mod was really fun (I played it in its first beta stage, and a few days ago came back to try it a second time around)

The fact that there is 3 teams with multiple classes on each team adds a lot and there's a class that fits almost anyone.

The character models and weapons look fantastic and have great animations. It's easy to tell the teams apart, and the maps look absolutely stunning.

There are also a decent amount of servers (with a lot of players on the ones with stats [24 on one yesterday]) - It's on STEAM now, so there's a lot more players than there used to be.

It's interesting because it's a cross between armor & swords VS old technology VS a blunderbuss/revolver, swords, and explosives - but it's all fairly balanced somehow.

The game also has an interesting "special attack" feature and the ability to parry. - Shields can break after blocking enough hits or powerful hits, and swords have a chance to deflect the blow from another player. - When you are attacking and killing your special meter will charge. - If you (for example) have your blunderbuss out as a pirate captain and use your special (F key) you can fire 1 special explosive shot to do more damage to your enemies.

Overall, I give this game a 10/10. - It looks fantastic (Maps, weapons AND characters) - the animations are fantastic - they added the parry system and breakable weapons that i didn't even know was possible in source - and there's such a variety in classes.

A MUST-TRY for mods.

Hidden Source

Mod review

This mod is great.

The weapons are fairly balanced, and theres a decent variety to choose from.

The hidden (since he's almost entirely invisible) adds so much suspense it's crazy. - He will be standing above you on the ledge and you won't even see him, and the last thing you'll hear is "Look... up..." in a haunting whisper. You do, firing, and realize that he's moved from the ledge and standing right in front of you.

You'll also be walking around searching for him to take him down, and find the teammate that was walking down the hall 30 seconds ago (dangling from the roof pinned there like a decoration) - courtesy of the hidden.

I suggest the mod to anyone wanting to try something new, or someone looking for a suspenseful FPS game. It rightfully deserves a 10/10 rating.

Distraction

Mod review

I was really disappointed with this mod. They said that it was based on The Specialists (I was a huge fan of it back in the day) and Action Half-Life.

I downloaded it expecting one of the two, or even a blend of style. - It wasn't anywhere near what I expected.

There are tons of glitches, (laying down and running faster than if you were just running, and still able to fight so players cant see you well), etc. as well as some spots where you can ALMOST glitch out of the map, but it provides really unfair sniping spots.

The super jump and sliding was really cool that it was actually able to be implemented but really, really buggy.

The game itself was mediocre (AT BEST) compared to The Specialists and AHL... As a mod itself, I would give it a 6... Maybe.

I'd suggest finding a new mod though rather than trying this one (sorry, guys.) - It just has no servers, tons of glitches, and unbalanced gameplay.

Zombie Master

Mod review

Trying to keep this review fairly short (I've done like 5 big ones in the past hour)

The mod itself is really well made.

The models are OK... but nothing really special about them (they look much better in ZM2 being released soon)

The blend between FPS and RTS is the key thing here, though. The amount of control the Zombie Master gets is pretty nice, and there are tons of different zombies to scare the hell out of the humans.

The community is a decent size (on STEAM, so there's more servers than most mods) but still not the most active mod I've seen.

Overall I give the mod an 8/10. It's fun to play, looks nice, but has some consistency issues that really weigh it down. - I'd suggest playing it, but now that ZM2 is coming out - I suggest you guys wait and see how that one works first!

Zombie Panic! Source

Mod review

This mod is (by far) my favorite so far.

I normally don't give a mod a 10/10, (except for Suicide Survival making me LMAO.), but this mod is deserving of it.

There are a really nice variety of weapons (including a few unique melee weapons that would [realistically] be available to you during a real apocalypse), and a few different game modes to test them on. (Don't forget the ability to scavenge for ammo and have a mini inventory-like system!)

The two main modes I've played (haven't checked for others) was to get a key, access the basement, get to the generators, get power, and escape. - The other being to just survive ~ and both of them were extremely fun with a bunch of people in the servers at the time.

This mod doesn't have as much of a problem as others with the "empty servers" or "no servers" issue any more because it is now featured on STEAM (really easy to get, too. - you should give it a try) and many people hop on and try it. [Still not as much as CS:S and such though, so don't start comparing.]

The characters are also pretty nice (a little clunky models, but there's a nice little variety there ;D)

Overall, though... FANTASTIC mod. I would recommend it to anyone that loves the zombie genre (especially because you wont survive very long with just body shots on zombies - it almost forces you to aim for the head with the damage boost it gives) or anyone that just likes horror-themed FPS games. - Go try it!

Suicide Survival

Mod review

This mod is utterly HILARIOUS (to say the least.)

When I connected at first, I saw there was only a few servers (extreme disappointment), and expected it might suck (which is why it would have no servers).

I joined one with 4 players at the time, and the first thing I heard was "ALALALALALA" *BOOM* as a shrub sprinted across my screen. - Laughed so hard I literally fell out of my chair. My friend Mike was here with me, and neither of us could breathe (it was hilarious.)

Overall the mod is really fun. It's like hide and seek with a twist - exploding plants and Monty Python quotes all over the place.

If you have a good sense of humor and just want to try something "out-of-the-blue" I suggest you try this awesome mod.

I give it a 10/10 not only because of the great first impressions, but because it STAYS funny even if you play for hours on end. Great mod.

Battle Grounds 2 and 3

Mod review

In my own personal opinion, this mod is easily one of the best.

The characters are well made, and the gun models don't "hurt my eyes" like some of the other mods (they actually knew what they were basing their weapons off of on this one.)

The accuracy of the guns is perfect. - You have to compensate for the bullet being "way the hell off" and aim a little off on purpose to actually hit your target, and the reloading animation is great as well (takes forever to reload, just like it did back then.)

The sounds are great, the maps are "OK" (almost all of them are just community player-made so they aren't as great as an actual developer) but nice nonetheless.

Overall this mod gets a 9.5/10 from me. (if only I could add the .5 to the rating). - The only thing preventing it from getting the full 10/10 is just a few glitches i've had then getting stabbed with a bayonett through a wall, etc.

Fistful of Frags

Mod review

Overall, the game was very well made. The map layouts were pretty good, as well as extremely detailed.

The weapon models, horses, and players were amazing as well, but had some major consistency issues. When you are playing the "good guys", your characters wear vests that are dark blue denim colored, and if you're the "bad guys", you wear lighter blue/reddish and a trench coat.

Because of the similar color schemes and models, it is extremely difficult to tell who's who on your team. Other than that, the gameplay was great.

I tested a variety of gamemodes when I first started playing (Mainly just a "hold the gold for as long as you can" type of game mode, but there was also one where each team is fighting for control of it.) and overall it was really satisfying, but it got frustrating with the model inconsistencies.

The weapons (like I mentioned above) were amazing models, (aside from some minor flaws in the design of a few revolvers) and the animations were pretty fluid, and because of the weapons and notoriety system, these 2 features make up the majority of the game.

Overall I would rate the game about a 9/10. It was really good, but not great. Some glitches, team model issues, and lack of servers really bog down the game's overall appeal, but because of the single player (with bots) feature, it prevents the game from going any lower.

SourceForts

Mod review

This mod is one of the finest that I've played. Not only is building forts fun (especially with friends), but the combat is pretty fast-paced as well.

You get plenty of time to build your fort, and a nice variety of classes to choose from (reminds me a little of Team Fortress), and was a refreshing mod to play compared to some of the recently released ones.

The downsides:

On the servers that I joined, there was at least one "Griefer" - People that purposely mess up what you are attempting to build or alter your current objective to break your fun for their own satisfaction.

Also, when there are lots of people on a team, you quickly hit the prop limit and can't build quite the amazing base you want to build. (However, if you do have a team that can work well together, you can still pull it off)

Overall, I would give this mod a 9/10 for smooth gameplay, it's unique, and is easy to get on and play for hours on end. The only thing preventing a full 10/10 is the amount of griefers and the prop amount issue.

Other than that, a fantastic mod! I would recommend it to anyone looking for something new to try!
